Gas Prices Going Up

Recommended Posts

Could it get any worse... I just saw the news the other day and saw that the alaskan pipeline is closed due to a leak and has to be shut down for repairs, causing the gas prices to go up even more than it has already is...Such headache

They only supply 8% of our total oil, but yet the prices will rise like they supply 48% of our oil. It's just one more lame excuse to bend us over the oil barrel.

 That accounts for about less then 10% of the oil this country consumes per day.But no doubt it will affect prices across the board no matter if the gas you buy has nothing to do with that pipe line. This is where i have a big problem with the tatics used by major oil companys. I would love to see on paper the justifacation other then the padding of there pockets as to why a pipeline that my area does not even use for fuel affect the price in my area!

Everyone should just get use to it because it is not going down ever, this is all just another excuse to condition a majority of this country to gas going beyond 4 dollars a gallon like they did last year using the storms to condition us to the 3.00 dollar plus mark.I really feel bad for people who have a long commute to work it's going to get to a point where you either have a oversized roller skate for a car or quit your job and settle for something more local, thank god i have about a 15 min drive to work.

Fairbanks, AK – Alyeska Pipeline Service Company safely restarted the trans-Alaska pipeline at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 23, following a successful scheduled maintenance shutdown. Key work activities included replacement of Check Valve 109 near the Klutina River, installation of a Check Valve at Pump Station 10 and valve testing near Atigun Pass. Approximately 30 other work tasks were performed at the pump stations and at the Valdez Marine Terminal during the shutdown.

The pipeline was shutdown at approximately 6:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22 and was not scheduled to restart for 36 hours. Due to several months of planning and the incorporation of lessons learned from previous maintenance shutdowns, the projects were completed safely and ahead of schedule. The loading and delivery of North Slope crude was not affected by the shutdown.

That is the only info I could find on it being shut down any time recently.

this is what I read on usa today:

ANCHORAGE (AP) — BP said Monday it discovered corrosion so severe that it will have to replace 16 miles of pipeline at the huge Prudhoe Bay oil field — work that could shut down the nation's single biggest source of domestic crude for months and drive gasoline prices even higher.

Oil prices climbed more than $2 a barrel on the news, and gasoline futures rose, too. The West Coast is expected to be squeezed particularly hard, and the government is considering releasing oil from its emergency stockpile to ease the crunch.

BP PLC said it will have to replace most of the 22 miles of so-called transit pipeline at Prudhoe Bay, which produces about 2.6% of the nation's daily supply including imports, or about 400,000 barrels a day.

It's not big oil company tactics, it oil speculators on the stock market "speculating" excessive demand and creating an imaginary shortage in oil supplies, and driving up the price for no reason other than the fact that they make a mint off of it when oil prices stay high. Oil companies seeing record profits is a by-product of this practice. Their profit margins haven't increased percentage-wise.

Of couse, that's the way I see it...And I'm not really the sharpest knife in the drawer, so take it with a grain of salt.

Technically the prices shouldn't go up at all since the Fed Gov said they would release oil from the emergency reserve to make up the difference.

It's NOT 8% of our total oil.

It's 8% of domestically produced oil.

It's about 2.6% of TOTAL oil consumed in the U.S.

Regardless of how much % is used, just goes to show that engineers who should know what they are doing have there heads up there asses. Why didnt anyone think of this sooner? Duh...metal tends to rust and corrode over time. Oil is bad for the environment. My 4 year old neice knows that. Its no different than the Y2K crap. Lets wait till the last minute, then try to come up with an answer while the general public gets paranoid. The profits the oil companies are making...whether it be direct, or a by-product, is still BS and should have a stop put to it. These same companies also get HUGE tax breaks every year while the rest of us bust our asses making little money. I'll get off my soapbox now. Im just pissed off like everyone else.

Does anyone think the governement is going to really do anything about high gas prices?? Hell no! Oh a few politicians use it as a talking point to get a few votes, but gasoline is taxed as a PERCENTAGE of the price of a gallon of gas. The higher the price goes, the more tax flows into the treasuries for them to spend on pet projects!

I know I am tired of paying at the pump and my thoughts of a newer Suburban are diminishing. I just don't want that much money to go to gasoline. My "income pie" sees the peice for gasoline growing while other slices get smaller. Those other slices are MY personal rewards! I am seriously considering a way to get by without my truck and just rely on farm trucks for any type of truck work I need to do. I could drive something else for daily driving.

It's kinda funny how this is being spun on the news. At first they reported it right (as far as I know) that the pipeline accounts for about 2 1/2 percent of the daily consumption of oil. Than it was like that didn't sound bad enough so they changed it to 8 percent of the daily production in the US. This fuel price sh*t has gotta change. I think the American public needs to demand change. I wish i could get a multi million dollar bonus for bilking my customers

Sh*t. $5 a gallon is still a bargain in my op. You can't make it yourself. Find it. Drill it. Pump it. Payroll. Export (across the ocean). Transfer. Refine. Ship again. Additives. You know, milk is a rip off, $3 a gallon for something that comes from a cow? I should make you into a salisbery steak!

The tax rate is based on a certain price per gallon sold. Not a % based on the price of gas. So if gas price goes us the GOV. doesn't make more.

BUT, there are a 5 or 6 states that do add a small sales tax % to gas. So higher gas price would help out those certain states.

:(

If they fined BP $10 Billion for this piss poor management of that pipeline...... It would make them notice. It would make ALL of them notice. They had a responsibility to manage that pipeline properly. That means state of the art maintenance based on their promises. It wasn't because they didn't have the cash. They didn't fulfill their promises. A 'breach of contract', so to speak.

This shows that they cannot be trusted to 'self-regulate'. They've proven it. Now fire some BP execs, and take away their multi-million dollar bonuses as well as the the $10B hit and we might see some action.

They want ANWR open but their shooting themselves in foot and all of us in the ass!

Their poor management has hit the entire nation hard at a time when it can ill afford to handle more.

Enough said.
