Ok so I bought my 06 Sierra Crew Cab Z71 at the end of last month. I got an awesome deal and for the most part got what I really wanted. IE color, crew cab, cloth interrior, Z71, digital climate control, tow package and even some things I didnt care about like the Bose system(Non lux).

 

However there are a few things that I didnt get that I really wanted. Like I said the price was just too good to pass up, so I thought I would live without some of the things that I wanted. UNTIL I cam across this GOD AWEFUL site Now I got the mod bug!!!

 

I have looked at lots of posts and done a fair amount of searching but I do not find that any of the information is 06 specific.

 

The things I want are:

 

Factory Nav touch screen model that will allow me to keep the rear audio controls

There is one that had a flip down screen with a dedicated Nav drive I would like to

get. PN 15883298 Anyone know if this is lux or non lux? Will it work with my

Truck?

 

Steering wheel controls with DIC access. I have found some helpful info on this but

sounds like it might be a hassle getting the dealer to reprogram the truck. How

much is the harness? My truck is a non HD

 

Power folding mirrors. I would love to get those put on my truck, again sounds

simple enought but has anyone done it easily?

 

Id like to add XM or IPod interface, from what I read that is a either or type of item

 

Last I would like to add OnStar, Problably the only thing on my list that I will not be

able to get done.

 

Again I see mixed info on these upgrades, not sure if I can get it all done but would really like to get the Nav and DIC done!!!

To add the DIC controls, you need to buy a leather wrapped button steering wheel, and clockspring harness. The cost of parts from jennings chevrolet (chicago) by mail: Steering wheel: $ 168

 

gmpartsdirect.com for the clockspring harness: $ 180

 

Then you need to have the dealer call GM and get the programming codes for your truck based on the VIN, and have the truck programmed

no the warranty wont be voided if there genuine GM parts and you have them do it

Do a site search under"redundant radio controls" and there is a thread with a complete description of what to tell the dealer, based on somebody actually doing this.

As I understand it, GM is not very happy when people try to do this, which is understandable because replacing the clockspring harness involves disconnecting and reconnecting the air bag harness and if done improperly, it would make the air bag inoperational.

 

But what I fail to see is why GM does not at least offer and retrofit kit on condition that only authorized GM dealers can install them. That would be fine by me and it would take the liability off of GM..

 

Instead they force the customer to buy parts and then practically beg their dealer to get the right codes and do the programming. That's just plain customer unfriendly. If they were not so cheap, they would have made the DIC steering wheel standard in every LT Silverado, not just LT3 version.
