5.3l cam upgrade

Hey yall , im wanting a cam upgrade and i want a good to great increase in low end and good picks ups in mid and lil in top, just a good inrease in the entire rpm range , but remember im upgrading for low end but wont mind more power any where else. the guy a wait 4 me recommend a 224 117lobe , not sure wut that means , jegs has a ls1 cam upgrade which claims big increase in low and mid, but tell a good size to run , remember i have a mostly stock truck other that exhaust and tune and soon to be intake. just want a simple cam and springs up grade. thanks Jack :ughdance:

117LSA is too high IMO. Plus that cam will have a nice dead spot down low that I know you will not like!!!!!!! Keep it at 112-114 to retain a "usable" power band. Some people tend to favor single pattern cams over a split. They both work well but it all depends on your engine mods. Intake, exhaust etc, etc. I replied in another cam post somewhere on here. But to keep good low end you cant co crazy on duration or lift. That is unless your willing to get a torque converter!! Comps 212/218 .522/.529 114 would be a good choice for low end. That was the first cam I put in my old 5.3 and it performed well for its size. It made 271hp and 310tq with some minor tuning I did with LS1Edit. I never got into a full tune before I put in a 6.0. Comps 216/220 would be pushing it with the stock converter in a heavy truck.
