blue or red transfer case fluid ??

Recommended Posts

Read an article that GM changed from the red dextron type to a new blue type that has better friction componants which means better Auto-4x4 engaugement. My burb is a 04 and being to lazy to go check Im asking if mine has the blue or red. If I still have the red Id liked to change to the blue as a recommneded upgrade. Any takers on this one ??

They have had it along time. My 99 came with red but the red to blue switch happened shortly after--late 99 or 2000? I had it changed under warranty.

blue fluid is in the autotrack transfer case. this would be the 4 wheel drive that engages with a push button on yopur dash.

red dextron 3 atf is in the manual shift 4 wheel drive that is shifted by a lever on the floor.

Thats what the manual says. hope this helps.
