Drove a new Avalanche yesterday

Had the trailblazer in for a few service items so i decided to see if they had a Vortec Max. Of corse they didnt so i asked to drive one of the 4 new siverados they had sitting on the lot but the dealer said they were not invoiced yet and couldnt let anyone drive them. So i asked to drive the new avalanche. I was pleased with the the features and fit/ finish but felt the truck lacked the power it should have. It should be close to the same weight as my 1500 crewcab 4x4 but seamed much slower off the line and maybe the same or a little quicker once the rpms were really up there. I would love to have one cause the ride and handling was very good. Plus the steering was quick and accurate. I just felt it should have more power. I then drove a new diesel 3/4 ton after hearing about the mega- torque they have. I was pretty disappointed in the off-the-line power it had also. It would not spin the tires off the line but would after racking the rpms up. I realize this is a big heavy truck but i expected more. My next drive will be the vortec max and i really hope that has some balls because to me it seems like thse new trucks have too much torque management for my tastes. I want a truck with almost 400 horse power to feel like it has almost 400 hp. Any one else feel the same?

A chip can easily solve that problem. GM uses the Torque managment for many reasons, one of which is to save people from "Burning Rubber"

I test drove a vortec max before i bought my truck and i was really dissapointed. the Salesman made this whole production about the truck having the power to smoke anything on the road. But i feel that my 5.3L would have smoked that truck.

Never believe what a auto sales dude has to say. do the research yourself, test drive it, and let what the sales dude says go in one ear and out the other.

Hi michigan2500hd--The lack of power you mentioned in your test drive of the Avalanche might be the result of a low numerical rear. Since gas prices skyrocketed over the summer, dealers have been ordering units with the lowest numerical rear ratio available. An April '06 brochure I have on the 2007 Avalanche shows only a 3.73, or 4.10 ratio available, however they may have added the 3.42, as I believe they did with the Suburban.--Frank Sub

Think about this guys...these trucks are also nowhere near broken in, my 06 Crew was an absolute dog when i first got it and now its nice, just the way i like it. Of course faster is always better...but im satisfied

Maybe it did have the 3.42, my 06 CC 4X4 is a bit of a dog out of the hole with the same gears. Those new Avalanche's look a lot better in person than they do in pictures.
