vortec timing

Can some one give me some help on timing on a vortec 5.7 out of a 99 tahoe. Where putting a rebuild in and I don't know how to time it. I would love to get some advise on it.

timing for the 350 SB is 18436572

 

when youre looking at the front of the engine

the cylinder numbers go as

 

8-7

6-5

4-3

2-1

 

 

Thats As far as I remember from autos class. After that you need a timing light

 

Also youre supposed to roll the crankshaft so that cylinder is at Top dead Center too! And make sure the distributor rotor is pointing to the #1 spark plug pin

You can adjust reference timing on this Vortec but only if you have a professional scan tool. To my best knowledge timing light won't do it on this engine.
