Front Suspension Issues

Hi.....new guy here looking for some help....here's my issue......

Ok so I was checking my brakes today, getting ready for a trip, and I decided to check the ball joints and the tie rod ends while I had the tires in the air. Well when I pulled on the bottom of the drivers side tire I got a little bit of play, not much, just like when a bolt is loose.

Also, I looked under the truck when pulling on the tire and it doesn't look like the lower part of the spindle (where the ball joint is located) is moving.....it's almost like the plate where the lugs nuts are (don't know what it's called on IFS) is loose. It is only doing this on the drivers side, the passenger side tight.

After reading some of the posts on this site, I was starting to think this may be the hub bearings wearing out.....I have 81,000 miles...

Any thougths Mr. GM-TECH.... :)

I'd say it's a bad hub bearing. We see more than our fair share of these but haven't replaced a ball joint in I don't remember when.

These come as a hole hub assembly.....correct?

And being the 'weekend' mechanic that I am, is this possibly something that I could replace myself? Or can it be repaired?

Thanks for your help.... :)

Yes, it comes as a complete hub assembly. The bearings are not replaceable. I'd say the average DIY'er could replace this without problems.

I'm guessing I just pop the plate off, unbolt the hub assembly and remove the old, grease the new and reassemble???

Man you are quick with the responses.....:)

That's basically it unless you have 4WD, then you have to remove the nut that holds the axle shaft. There's no greasing to do. The bearings are sealed.
