From what I could find thru google, approximately 12000 lbs.

Might be less though since you have 3.73 gears, but definitely 10000 lbs at a minimum.

How would I find out what suspension I had - that would really suck if I had the Z83 suspension as it would sort of negate the power of the 8.1L engine. Hell, with a regular 6.0 engine you can tow 7900 lbs.

May have figured it out - apparently since it has the Autoride suspension, that makes it a Z55, not a Z83. At least that is what my internet research is indicating.

 

Just wait till I start asking questions about towing, trailer hitches, etc. - yikes!

Ask all the questions you need to...that's what the forum is for, helping one another.

On the left side of the page, you will see a link titled "RPO Code Guilde". It will list all the codes for the different options.

All the stuff that your truck has will be listed on a label inside the glove box.

So for example, if you have the code "GT4", you have a 3.73 axle.

The reason for the 7900lb. rating is probably because your vehicle came with a class 3-4 hitch. I would have a aftermarket class V put on there if you plan to tow more than that.

No, all Suburbans with the 8.1 come with Autoride (Z55). Your tow rating is 10,500 lbs. If you had the 4.10 rear the tow rating would be 12,000 lbs.
