2005 Silverado radio install

My dad has a 2005 Silverado currently with a factory radio. It is not a top notch radio. Base model truck, no options. He got a radio for it to install. Trying to find a harness adapter for it. Best buy has one for $129.00. I'm into cavaliers and they have one just like it for my car, but that is only if you want the chimes. We can use a adapter ofr a Saturn that cost $15. Is there a option like this for the silverado? My father does not want chimes, just a working CD player. Thanks for any info.

Since that truck has a Class II data bus going to the radio, I believe all of the adapters that go to it have the chime module in it, driving cost up to the $75 to $100 range. (Would the Saturn really fit the connectors?)

But between the price of those adapters and the cost of the aftermarket head unit, you should be able to get a factory-take-out radio/ CD player off eBay for less than that cost, and it would pop right in with no installation kit, adapters, etc.

Amazon sells the Metra GMRC01 interface for about 69 bucks, and that will retain the chime. However, if you are willing to do without the chime i believe the Metra 70-2003 will work for about 15 bucks...

Well my Dad ended up buying the one from Best Buy. I helped him install it. Looking at the package it is the same one for my 2001 Chevy cavalier (which I'm using the one for a Saturn). So the Satrun harness adapter will work, but you will lose chimes and it is only $15.

you are not just losing the door chimes. it has to do with the class 2 warning systems.

the harness that you are using from the saturn will plug in but is missing the switched red wire. also dealer ships dont like it when radios are installed that way. just FYI

Man who cares what the stealership likes! They don't like it when we install anything that doesn't have Delco stamped on it.
