HVAC LEDs

I just finished installing Blue LEDs in my HVAC controller. It is a lot more involved IMO than the 2003-Up controllers. Thanks to Chuck16 for giving me some good instructions.

It took me about 2 hours because of the amount of soldering I had to do :shakehead: . Looks great in the truck and almost matches my Blue LEDs in my new Instrument Cluster.

It was a little bit of a PITA unless you are good with a soldering iron (I'm not), but it came out great. :banghead:

Check out my pics link in my sig to see what the HVAC board looked like before I put power to it. I need to lower the resistance on the main board because the LEDs are a little too dim for me, but the Recirc Air, Compressor, and Outside Air buttons are awesome looking.

Know its an older thread but.... What size resistors did you use? I was using 330's and they were nice and bright, until I dimmed them down once and they never would come back on again....

Thanks for any help,

Jon

I think I used 770/780 resistors. The only problem is the buttons are REALLY bright and the knobs are dim. I will probably take it out and replace the ones on the knobs with lower ohm resistors to increase the brightness.

You wouldn't by any change have instructions on how to do this would you? I have been working on mine for a couple days now and can't ge them to all light up.

I know it's been forever since this question was posted, but here goes...

Basically you have to put a resistor inline with every bulb for the 99-02 HVAC controllers. You have to find out which side is positive on each location of the circuit board and solder the + side of the resistor and LED to the + side of the board and the same way for the - side. Once you have all of that soldered, plug it in BEFORE you put everything back together and make sure it all works (learned that from experience).

It's a tedious process because you have to solder EVERY light/resistor and there is not much room to work.

Check out My Truck Pics and it should show you some pictures of the board and LED/resistors as I did this project.

PM me if you have anymore questions.
