california emissions vs. other states

I've got a 2000 K3500 from california. I live in Arizona, and I'm wondering if CA emissions reduce engine power and if it can be changed if it will increase power.

Well I don't know if theyre different or not, but an easy way to get that extra power is a cat-back exhaust, CAI, and a tune...

In my experience, they may not be different at all, if so... maybe a difference of 5HP tops. Not worth messing with. As others have said, get a performance tune.

Most California Vortec 7.4's have an air pump, and that seems to be about the only difference. The air pump is there only to heat the cats up quicker on cold start, there is a clutch on the pulley and it disengages when the engine goes into closed loop. All the Vortec 7.4's in pickups were rated at 290 h.p. and 410 ft. lbs., regardless of what state they were sold in.
