I have an 07 new body style Z71 extended cab with the 6.0. Love the truck but I have 600 miles on it and been to the shop 3 times counting my appointment Thursday morning. First was an oil leak from day one which was fixed and was minor. Now I have a creaking or popping in the steering or suspension. I hear it in corners or when stopping or taking off. It drives me nuts and then my dealership tried to tell me the first time it was my nerf bars mounted wrong! I knew that was not it and told them I would be back soon and here I am gojng back in the morning. Any ideas what may cause this? I do not think it is the clunking that chevys are famous for. Thanks

Take off the nerf bars before you go back to have it fixed that will take away there excuse away.

This a perfect example why not to put on aftermarket equipment soon after purchase.

Didn't you go over this in another posting?

Try another dealer service dept.

Take a service tech for a ride and don't let him out until he agrees he hears what you are.

I don't have those problems " yet " however my 07 Chevy ext Z-71 is driving me crazy with a creaking noise coming from the right rear ext door. At any speed, and any bump in the road it sounds like the door is not closed !. No matter how hard i close it the noise is still there. Its so loud that when i turn up the radio full i can still hear it. I guess i'm going to be making an appointment with my dealer :-(

yep, mentioned it before. Funny thing is they tried charging me $67 for moving the nerf bars and I reminded them that they put it on when I got the truck! I do not have much faith is this service dept but we will see what happens tomorrow

Underhood Rattle?

Some owners of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra may comment on a rattle from the dash area. This rattle could be caused by the engine cover contacting the front of dash/cowl area. The engine cover is retained at the rear by two C-style retainers.

An engine harness that is not properly seated in its U-channel can obstruct the engine cover from going into its C-retainers. This will push the rear of the engine cover up and contact the front of dash/cowl area

To correct this concern, fully seat the engine harness into the U-channel Reinstall

the engine cover, making sure it is retained properly in the C-retainer.

update. My faith in this truck is restored. Seems Redvett was right. Turns out the dealer had my nerf bars put on somewhere else and it was not done right and was a cheaper brand. They put on a new set of Luvernes with spacers that are suppose to be better for GM's and now the truck is very quite. It took them twice to get it right but I do not care. I now feel like I got what I paid for in this truck plus I am very happy that the awful noise was an aftermarket item issue and not my steering shaft or suspension. Thanks

What I'd like to know is did they give you your money back on the re-install they had to perform.
