Low Speed Front End Squeal, 06 Z71 Silverado.....

at low speeds (best situation being a bank drive through) there's a squealing sound coming from the front end. Brakes applied or not, while slowly rolling, it makes that (not very loud) noise. What is it?

All I can think of are brakes or cv's. I'd hoped after the first service that lubing the points in the front might get it and I mentioned it to the service writer but did not push it as a big concern. Even now it's not a big deal and it can't be heard with the windows up. But it's there. Anyone?

My tires squeak when doing parking lot maneuvers on certain pavement. Others it does not happen. Seems the more black and/or fresh the blacktop, the more it does it. This is NOT the binding heard when using auto or 4x4. Only thing I can guess. Could be a wheel bearing depending on mileage but it is really tough to diagnose a noise without hearing it.

can only guess right now i suppose, however.............

it can only be heard or really, only seems to start under 15 mph, while tracking straight away. Turning the wheel back-and-forth or making a hard turn doesn't affect or change the noise. Also, braking through it or during doesn't seem to change it.

To me, that seems to leave only the cv's, right? Which are not serviceable, right? What other moving parts could be suspect in this situation? Are there any points up front that could be lubed to see if that made a difference?

I had an issue with my '03 Silverado last week where I was noticing the same thing. With the window down, I could hear a constant "rattle"...it was very slight and only noticeable with the window down; and it did it regardless if I was going straight, turning; or whatnot. Took it to the Chevy dealer in Seymour (the one in columbus sucks) and the problem was a bearing in the left front hub assembly. They said the hub was "extremely lose" which caused the bearing to go bad. And as luck would have it, you can't just replace the bearing...on these trucks you must replace the entire hub assembly.

I am not sure if this is what your problem is or not but it is something to look into...

I have a loud popping while hard cornering

Based on the experiences I have had with my truck and from what I have read on here, that popping sound you are hearing while cornering is your intermediate steering shaft. GM has had a poor design since 1999 and have issued several TSB's regarding this shaft. I asked the dealer if this shaft is such a big issue and has been since '99, why didn't gm fix it a lot sooner than now? They told me (and I quote) "Thats a d**n good question...thats what we ask them but they never give a good answer."

I'm also having a similar problem. I just installed a new set of 2007 Silverado 18 inch rims with stock 265 tires on my 2003 1/2 ton. I had a 3 inch body lift in the truck with 315s on stock 16 inch rims. With the old tires and rims my steering wheel shakes going down the road. I had the old tires and rims balanced several times and I was told it might be due to the size of the tire on the stock rim. It seem most severe at about 45 mph.

I have now taken off the lift and installed the 18 inch rims with the 265 but the shake is still there. I have had the new tires and rims balanced and aligned and I was told there is nothing wrong with the tires or rims. I have also noticed a slight squeal coming from the front. Does any one know what this might be. The shaking is driving me nuts and I'm having a lot of people tell me something different.

Could it be the bearing and hub doing the shaking.

thanks for the help and comments guys.

it's still doing it. guess i'll have to take it to the dealership and get a technician to attempt to diagnose. although, i hate trying to hunt down a sound/noise.

might just get a grease gun, hit all the front end points, and get some of that white grease spray stuff and spray possible noise makers???

.............on a truck with 6k miles.
