I took my 3 week old truck to the dealer this morning to have a few things checked out and when I picked it up this afternoon I found that someone had put a ding in the side. When I pointed it out to the valet he rubbed it and said "oh it's barely noticable" - part of me wanted to punch him for shrugging it off like that. One of the things it was in for was the driver's side visor doesn't "snap" back up like the other side does - it just sort of hangs limp. Thankfully they are replacing that visor because whoever looked at it put their greasy hands all over the white cloth.

I have purposely parked this thing a mile or so from any building / store / etc. in order to avoid door dings. It has _never_ been parked physically next to another vehicle since I've had it (got it with ~9 miles on it and 0 imperfections). They said to bring it back tomorrow so they can call a "fix a dent" place to come fix it. I'm hoping this makes it look like it was never there, granted it's a pretty minor dent.

I guess whenever I have to take my truck to the dealer next I'm going to have to take the whole day off of work so I can babysit my truck so these heathens don't **** all over it. I realize that they aren't making the car note and could care less about my truck but they should try a little harder to feign respect for other people's property.

I hear you. Had a next door neighbor get significant rear bumper/quarter panel damage from a dealer visit with their Buick minivan. They luckily didn't put up too much of a fight fixing it.

Door dings seem to come with the territory with large trucks. Its frustrating!

I hope you insisted the dealer fix it. I do a walk around with the write up person to verify no body damage and hve it noted on the work sheet.

Works for me.

Stuff like this is one of the reasons I avoid going to the dealer for warranty work if at all possible. If the problem is a minor annoyance, I tend to prefer to just live with it.

The problem with not taking it back to the dealer is if you don't the MFR has no track record of a problem (yours might be the only one) and the MFR has no clue. The 1990 ZR-1 Corvette is a perfect example. No one drove them and GM had to wait until the 91-92 M/Y before the problems came apparent.

An entire part of me would want to punch him for saying that. If it were his brand new car/truck he'd be bitchin too. I wanted to tear apart the guys at my dealer after they attempted to charge me $50 to scan my computer for codes.

That sucks. If the "Fix-a-Dent" doesn't fix the dent, don't settle for a truck in worse shape coming out than going in. Techs just don't care about your rig as a general rule. My NBS has had more crap replaced due to the techs damaging it than actual issues I went in with from the start. I had a tech scratch my door installing chrome handles, damage my switch bezel on the door trying to pry stuff that wouldn't pry, cracking my bottom window trim for some odd reason and getting grease all over the overhead console from getting in with his dirty-@ss hat. Some techs are professionals, most are hacks. All of you techs on this site excluded, of course. :chevrolet:

That sucks. I'd also be aggravated over the fact that you have to waste your time to bring it back to them. They should be willing to send the fix-a-dent people out to whereever is convenient for you (home, work, etc.).

If there are other dealerships not too far away you could always try a different one.

My last truck was a Chevy and that dealership was meticulous, diagnosed and fixed things right the first time, was very curteous, and the service agent I always used was excellent.

I'm not pleased with the service dept at the GMC dealership I bought my new truck from. In fact I'm considering going back to the Chevy dealership for my warranty work and anything I would rather have them do.

Amen to that. I always do a walk around now before even getting in my truck after picking it up. I try to never drop it off, I always wait for it when possible. Anything I can fix myself I fix myself. I'm not a mechanic, but at least I have more care in what I do.

Don't know where you are located or what dealer you use but THAT is a bad service department which unfortunately give the good ones a bad rap.

Couple of years ago had my, then almost new 03 suburban in for some warranty work. When I came to pick it up, the valet brought it around and pulled up with me on the passenger side. I notice a scratch about 8 inches long on the right front fender. All I could say was "Oh, <<it!" About 2 seconds latter my service writer was standing next to me asking what was wrong. Pointed to the scratch and said that it was not there before. He appoligized for the inconvienance and said "it will be taken care of but you will have to bring it back".

Hey stuff happens, as long as they take care of it and make it right.

I have had the same dings, they open the doors on the lift and it hits the lift tower leaving a dent/scratch.

I had the dealer fix it, very noticiable on black .

IF you do a walk around with the service guy before leaving it and they know your concerned... BEFORE they put a tech on it.

I have found that if you let your Service Writer know that you are particular about your truck, they tend to make sure it gets a little extra attention. Granted, they should treat everybody's vehicle well and do their best to make sure it does not get dinged. My Dealership seems to be very tuned in to this and from what I have experienced and witnessed, they go the extra mile.

I was looking at a new car several years ago and the Salesman came out with a large wooden board with hooks screwed into it holding the keys. He laid the board on the trunk of a new car while he was getting the keys off. I could not believe it. I don't think the hooks screwed all the way through the board but still he should not have laid the board on the new car.

I didn't even let them put my plates on. In fact I didn't even let them see my truck--I parked across the street.

Funny story though. My brother bought a Saturn Vue a few years ago. The salesman did his little spiel about all the features and how he couldn't go wrong with the car. My brother had already said he'd take the car but the guy wanted to show him everything and make sure my brother knew about everything including the dent resistant door panels. So the salesman commences ramming his knee into the door panel--several times while shouting "see, it won't even dent!" It didn't and I'll give the engineers credit for that, but my brother was practically on his way inside to pay.

Be sure to get a LIFETIME warranty on the repair. My insurance company contracts with shops that must give the warranty if you have the work done there. If they wont give you this, go somewhere else and go thru the dealers insurance. Stand up for your rights!
