Gm Half Ton Duramax

GM just came out with plans to build a 4.5 liter duramax for halfton trucks, 300 hp and about 500 ft lbs of torque. http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/news/gm/fu...selsfromgm.html

Depends on the price they set for the 4.5L, but I would guess that it will be a massive hit when it gets here. It's about time!!!

I'd assume it would cost about 4 to 5 grand for the diesel option, they also said it will make it's debut in the H2 according to autoweek, least it would give me an excuse to own a hummer and stick it to the environmentalists

Why is GM beating around the bush? Dont get me wrong I loved the 6.5 turbo deisel in around the 97 half ton silverados. But I just wish that they would make it optional to have the 6.6 Duramax in the half ton! That would be insane amount of hp and torque for the half ton!

i think the 4.5 duramax had some pretty impressive hp and torgue figures that would be great in a 1/2 ton. the only problem i see with this is that the prices for a new truck are allready so much and then you add 5-6000 on top of that....YIKES

There would also be an insane amount of torque management programmed into the PCM.

I might just have to upgrade sooner than I thought.... Financially though I need to get atleast 5 yrs outta my current baby, so that might work just fine, give it a few years to get all the bugs worked out...

 

I had a 94 1500 diesel that I loved! only thing is that it wasnt "mine" it was my parents and i drove it from 16-19, then they sold it So i finally decided to get myself a new truck this year after I got a good job... and now look.. oh well I still love my Vmax, I should have her past the 100k mark by 2011 anyway...

The 4.5 Dmax is supposed to make as much power and torque as the first 6.6 lb7 dmax!

Most definately a top contender as my next truck purchase! It's about time diesels are starting to make it into the mainstream! It's been that way overseas for years! I'm curious to see what kind of gas mileage you can get out of one of these 4.5L engines...

I think it is about time someone starts to offer the diesel option in a 1/2 ton truck. It would be a great option for people who want a diesel, but don't really have the need for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. So yeah the diesel will add about 6K to the price of a half ton, but it is still not going to cost you as much as a diesel in a 3/4 or 1 ton would. Just my $0.02 worth.
