Silverado 1500 Vs 1500hd Or 2500

Hi all. While I've been reading your questions and responses for some time now, this is my first post. So nice to meet you. I know the topic of suspension, torsion bars, and coils has been beaten up but I need some input.

I own a 2006, Silverado, 1500, 5.3L, 2WD, trailoring package, locking diff, and I love it. I got it last Dec and its my first truck. banger.gif

However I hate it when I pull up next to a 1500HD or 2500 2WD and they are sitting higher than me. We all know that the 2WD have coil springs and the 4WD have torsion bars. No issue there. So why is the 2WD 1500HD or 2500 sitting higher than me when they should have the same suspension set up. They clearly have more room in the wheel well than I do.

The rear is easy as the difference lies in the leaf. Simple fix. The front is a little more of an issue. I don't want a big 4"+ lift, but would like to be able to run 265-285 tires without having to worry about rubbing when driving the rought dirt roads out here in AZ.

So here's the questions for everyone to chew on? In a 2WD 1500, is there a differnce between the 2WD 1500HD or 2500 trucks suspension? Is the coil spring taller? Are the control arms different? They definetly sit higher. I know I could put spacers in the coils and problem solved but I will still be wondering what the real difference is.

While I don't think the suspensions are different, I pulled up next to a 2500 this morning and a theory I read about on a previous post may be true. Do the HD's and 2500's come from the factory with a small body lift? You can most defiently see more frame than you can on the 1500.

Thanks guys.

Don't know about the difference in suspension but some 2" coil spacers are cheap and raise the front nicely. I'd do that if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Thats what I'm doing.

2" spacers up front gets you level and enables you to install 33" tires, or 285's this should get you about 2" higher overall off the ground, since the tires on there now are only 29" tires. You will almost be at the stock height of a Z71. So I'm told.

Anybody have a link to these coil spacers? I want to raise my silvy up a little bit, but not spend a million dollars. Also I only want to do suspension lift, no body. Dont want a gap between my frame.

i have a 1500 light duty

and my dad has a 2500 hd

and if you look at the frames

its a completely different frame set up

and different rear ends

and different springs and stuff

he and i both have the torsion front ends

but his is different...

i think

his control arms are thicker i think

idk, his is just like, beefier

The difference between 1500 2WD and 1500HD/2500/2500HD/3500 2WD is that all of the HD setups use torsion bars, even with 2WD. The coils were strictly limited to 2WD 1500LD trucks. And the 2500HD and 3500 trucks seem to have a body lift because their frames are built stronger and taller, thus they sit up higher.
