Question For Those With A Wester Tuned Ecm

I bought a Wester's tuned ECM for my truck for my truck last fall. It is the freaking cat's meow to say the least. I love what it did for my truck.

They estimated that their tune added about 40 hp and 50 lb ft of torque to my engine...and maybe a 1/2 mpg as well. I believe the power numbers....and I never really saw the increase in MPGS...

Anyway...a couple of months ago, I had my transmission and cooling system completely flushed and refilled at a quality repair shop next door. When I drove the truck out of the shop, I noticed immediately that something was different... The idle was higher, the trans shift points were different, the grade brake acted differently...it was weird. I even asked the guy at the shop the next day... "Did you do something to my ECM?" He denied doing anything to the computer. So I drove it like that...figuring to myself that the guy at the shop tried to do me a favor and flashed my computer to see if there was any factory updates or anything and reset it back to factory specs... I'm aware that Westers has a deal that at anytime the ECM can be sent back to them and reprogrammed, so I wasn't really worried about it other than the time and expense involved with taking it out and sending it back to them...

Fast forward to last weekend...when I had to take the battery out of my truck to replace it. Guess what... All of a sudden after replacing my battery....my idle is about 300 RPMs less than it had been...my shift points have changed again...and the truck has different "howl" to it when engaging heavy throttle while charging up a highway on ramp...

For some darn reason, by disconnecting the battery and putting a new one in, my custom tune is BACK baby!!!

I spent a couple of months trying to convince myself that it really hadn't changed after the trans flush, it was just me...but I know for darn sure now that the custom tune was gone for a while...and is back now...

I WILL be in touch with the programmer at Westers to explain this to him and to ask why? But in the mean time...I wanted to ask those of you in here with a Wester tune if this had ever happened to you before? And if so, what do you think caused it?

Thanks,

Lance

Yes, I guess I should have stated that. I thought it was already in my sig line or profile.

BTW, I LOVE my 8.1... Wouldn't trade it for anything else there. And it's even one of the oil burning ones...

LSVLance,

I've thinking about getting a tune from Wester's. What all did you get in your tune? They quoted me the it's possible to get 100hp and 5-6 mpg.

My 8.1 had the 87/89 and mapped for better fuel.I could go as far as 315 miles on a 24 gallon tank.I recently switched to the 89/93 and made the truck alittle snappier in 1-3rd gear but I can only get 260-270 miles out of a tank now.I may go back to the tune I had before

oh and 5-6 mpg isn't possible I would say up to 1 mpg max
