i am thinking about changing my cam and reading the ESI manual it says that the heads and everything in the front like grill and radiator support has to be removed. Theres a lot of guys here that changed their cam in a 5.3 and was wondering if this is true or there is really no need to remove the heads and all the radiator support, radiator, condensor, front grill and bumper? thanks guys

You shouldn't need to take the heads off. You can buy a JPR Lifter tool...OR...Buy a couple of two foot long 5/16th inch (or so) wooden dowels...OR...Buy a bunch of those cheap-o pen-magnets and drop them down the pushrod holes to hold up the lifters.

Click here for a basic idea of what's involved. It's on an F-body, but it'll tell you pretty much what you're getting into with a cam install on an LS motor. It also shows how to do it without removing the heads.
