Chrome Mirrow Covers

When i worked at a aftermarket shop i bought some Putco mirrow covers that honestly just stic on with dubble sided tape. well the carwash started taking its toll on it and i dont even use the automatic i use the hand bays and still the tape would eventuly start to peel.

Now im working at gm and got the gm chrome mirrow covers and they actualy clip into place by removing the old ones.

a little pricy at $80 p/set but defently worth it especialy now i can go through the automatic wash if i want.

Well, for the 1/2 covers, I agree with you. But I bought the Putco Chrome ABS full mirror covers. Yes, they use 3M double sided tape, but they wrap around the mirror and actually wouldn't fall off even with no tape. the tape basically just keeps them from jiggling around. I like them, but in hindsight, I probably wouldn't buy them again. They looked just as nice before.

ok i can see that i have also seen a couple of those full covers and i agree they might be beter off if you want aftermarket. I just didnt want all that chrome. I see you have the nbs and for a while i know gm didnt have the mirrow covers so for a while i was sending everyone at the parts counter to the aftermarket shops.

One thing that pissed me off about these Putco full covers though....I have the power folding mirrors and I did pre-fit the covers before sticking them on, but I did not actuate the power fold. Well, after sticking them on with 3M's 4-million-pound-tape, I found that a corner on the bottomside of the mirror cover interfered when folding them in. I ended up pulling off the entire backside of the housing so I could Dremel a 1/4" radius into the interfering corner of the cover. No biggie, but it turned a 15 minute job into a 1+ hour job. I can't believe Putco didn't pre-fit these with power folding mirrors. I am willing to bet their mold has been modified for this already.

I was thinking of getting some. My truck is a white LT2 . I like the look of the chrome but I was wondering what it would look like with them. I was looking at the Aries caps, what do you think of those? I was also trying to debate on whta to do with my door handles. I think that the black goes along with my other trim but the painted ones look good too, the prob is that I also like the chrome handles. Still very unsure.

I like consistent colors. For example, I don't like the black plastic door handles except on black trucks, black on black. I don't like the chrome mirror caps because Chrome on top black on bottom. I like the solid black because when you tint the windows they look black and the mirrors kind of blend with them. What I plan to do is add chrome wheels, so that they match the other chrome on my truck, bumpers, grille... Then add either painted door handles or chrome, chrome wwould look alright because all the other trim is chrome still. If I could do the whole mirror including the piece on the door in chrome I might consider that but then I think that might be too much in that one area. Maybe chrome mirror caps, and paint the other portion of the mirror black.

Keep in mind I am no fan of black textured plastic, except where paint would get tore up. I'll live with it on the top of the rear bumper, because it gets stepped on, and the lower front air dam, because of rock chips, and bug guts.

What do you guys think about the chrome covers for the bottom of the mirror like the escalades have instead? I might do them but not sold on it yet....Also am going to get the chrome door handles

Get them white. Don't go to GM for the parts though, there is a guy on ebay that sells take off handles for $15! It's well worth it. I did mine and it looks great. Let me know if you want his screen name.

I am torn on them too, because the piece that mounts on the door is still black plastic. I think I'd rather have my whole mirror assembly painted black, to match the body. Maybe then add a chrome cap...
