i cant get my 07 silverado to powerbrake and spin the tires like i could in my 99, is there some type of traction control that can be shut off on these trucks or can i just not roast the tires?

Its most likely an aggressive torque management. Put it in 1st gear on the shifter, and like half to 3/4 brake it, you gotta play around, and punch it.

i'll have to try that but i just figured it would be easier to do like in the older trucks

Well if it doesnt have all the torque management, IE a tune, it will roast those babies right off. You can always rig up a bleach dispenser like I did on my tired old 4 cyl mustang so I could spin them all the time. But I sold that, but you can always get it to spin, even if its only around a turn.

I could always brake torque the tires loose, but never roast them off the line. With the tune I have I can squawk them, and I have 4.10 rearend. I am not too worried though, as tires are expensive and my traction sucks enough in the rain as it is. Can't wait to get new tires. Rain traction is one of the main reasons I will probably go to a wider 285 tire, even if it means less mileage and slightly less performance.

It's easily seen though...

I don't know if you'll be able to roast em but you can turn off the traction control and stable track by pressing the traction control once (turns that off) then press and hold the same button for five seconds, no both are off till you press and hold it again. I know I can't roast em because I've got the 4.8 with wide tires not enough power and too much traction.

Power breaking can throw you into limp home mode if the transmission temp gets too high and log a fault and set the check engine light.

When you take it to the dealer they'll know you were power breaking.

Go to this link http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado/prelaunch/ and on the right side click safety then stabilitrak and it explains it pretty well. Over all, while trying to burn your tires, if successful the system automatically thinks the truck is out of control and it will apply brakes were needed and cut the torque out to gain control again, and it really works!
