2007 Chev Nbs Keys

I have bought transponder keys on eBay for my Z06 and my CTS-V, had them cut at a locksmith and they all worked in the ignition. Those keys easily cost $60 at the dealer and $48 at the locksmith. There is nothing to them. No special electronic enabling other than this listed below. All NBS keys have the circle + on them. You can find one on ebay for $12-$15.

FOR CARS WHERE YOU WANT TO JUST CREATE A SPARE KEY:

1. Place an already programmed key in the keyway.

2. Cycle the ignition from OFF to ON (RUN) to OFF.

3. Within 15 seconds, insert the new, properly cut Transponder key in the ignition. Turn the key to ON (RUN) or START. The "Security" indicator light will go on and off. Turn the key "OFF".

The key will now start the car. Repeat the second step for each new key to be programmed.

I don't know if you can program the keys for the NBS, but with older trucks (my 01) you could. But you still need to cut the key, so unless it is a blank stay away from keys on EBAY.

You can program the keys for the NBS trucks,Just like it says above,Start the truck with an original key, then shut it off and remove it,then insert new key and start the truck.

The older trucks ('07 classic & prior trucks) didn't require any programming because they didn't have a transponder in them like the new truck (GMT900) keys do.

I bought a couple of keys off of eBay. I took them to a local Chevy dealer to get them cut. The parts counter guy cut them both for free. He did tell me that the OEM keys are made of a real hard metal that causes the key cutting machine to vibrate a lot when cutting them. He said that the machine cut these keys like they were soft butter. He recommended that I not use these keys on a regular basis. I plan on using them for emergency purposes only.

As for the programming of the keys for these GMT-900 trucks - my brother-in-law has a 900 truck and he bought a replacement key from a locksmith. He had the key cut and was going to program it himself. Well, he decided to try the replacement key in the ignition before programming it, and it started the truck. Fluke? I don't know.... I took my two keys and went through the programming process for the first one. I didn't see any "security lights" flashing when I had the key in the ignition. For the second key - I just put it in the ignition - no programming - and it started the truck first time. I drove home with that key in the ignition. So the quesiton is - do these keys and transponders really work? I may try getting a non-transponder key made and try it.

I received a key with a new remote from a site on Ebay. The remote programed without a hitch but after I had the blank key cut and tried to follow the steps listed above I can start the truck but I get a message on the DIC stating "service theft deterrent system" and a yellow light shaped like a lock is lit up (constantly) I drove a short distance with this condition but was concerned that I was going to make things worse. When I use the original key everything works fine with no error messages or lights. ANy clues?

THanks,

:D

I bought some eBay blanks a few weeks ago. The kid at True Value cut them for me for $1.

The programming was pretty straightforward though. It took maybe 30 seconds to do. My keys came with an instruction sheet.

I just got a normal key cut so I can unlock the doors if I lock the keys in there by accident.

I did the same. Went to a local locksmith who had a non-transponder key marked "For Saturn Cars" that works perfectly in the doors and tailgate of my truck. I keep it in my wallet just in case.
