P0304 And Low Fuel Light Gauge Problem

Recommended Posts

My 2001, 5.3, GMC, Sierra has a few issues, which I think 1 may be causing the other, but i wanted to run it by you guys first....

Recenlty, I have been getting a MIL P0304 code. Plain and simple a Cylinder 4 misfire. I changed the plug, swapped a known working good coil pack and wire. Cleared DTC's out and MIL came back on a day later. So I can rule out the plug/wire/coil pack............. ALSO around (or close to it) the same time, my fuel gauge starting acting up, it would go to zero, kick the low fuel light on but then suddenly begin reading correclty. Sounds like the dreaed fuel gauge/pump problem.....

One of hte causes of the P0304 MIL to turn on is LOW fuel. BUT if this was the case wouldn't all cylinders be getting the error , or a P0300 which is the multiple misfire code?

What else could be causing the P0304 misfire? leaky injector? someoene mentioned an o2 sensor? bad compression (please no)....... any help is greatly appreciated, I'm a t a loss...

I think I've read that leaky intake gaskets can cause those codes as well. Do a search and you'll find lots of good info on the intake leaks and ways to troubleshoot it.
