Low Tranny Fluid

Have around 6000 miles on my NBS Sierra with 6.0L, and transmission hasn't been as "refined" the last few weeks. I checked the fluid level with the tranny good and warm, and the fluid is only at the cold mark on the dipstick. Is this normal for the fluid to be low like that on a new truck? I have done some miles towing with my ~6500# travel trailer with tranny temps hitting 200F.

I don't think it's a leak, as there's no evidence of any leaks underneath the vehicle.

Thanks!

Don't change the fluid, call your dealer service tech and take it in. It may have been low from the factory, but it's under warranty, let them figure it out.

I happened to check my tranny fluid when 2 weeks old (about a month ago) when it was good'n hot and it barely shown on the stick. No leaks, the factory missed it and the dealer missed it during a rushed-up PDI. Only a pint low will almost drop the level below the stick depth. Take it to the dealer for low fluid, DEXRON XI is hard to find and pretty expensive.

A while back (2005) I went to Flint MI and took a tour off the truck factory there. It was a really enjoyable trip. One thing that I thought was "interesting" was that the automatic fluid filling machine had been taken off-line (there were folks working hard to fix it) so there was a woman who was having to fill fluids manually with a pneumatic balk fill hose. My first thought was "wow, if I were getting one of those trucks I would definitely want to check my fluids." She was having to move pretty fast. Having said that, I was really impressed overall.
