Help-problems With My Transmission

My truck has been acting up, it won't shift out of second sometimes. I've heard this is safe mode. But why isn't it doing this all the time. I'll drive to work and it will be fine then when I go home it won't shift. Other times it will stay in 2nd after a stop light. The transmisssion was rebuilt 2 years ago with all the heavy duty parts and I was told it's better than the new and good for 500 HP. A new torque converter was installed when the transmission was rebuilt also.

I changed the ignition switch thinking that was the problem but it started again.

The transmission fluid is clean and doesn't smell burnt. I checked the wiring running down to the tranny and found nothing. I don't know if it's electrical or mechanical problems. This is driving me nuts.

If anybody has any suggestions please reply before I drop a match in the gas tank.

Pretty hard to make a call here. If somebody went through it, I think I'd start by having them take a look at it.

shift solenoid, stuck valve? if it was rebuilt..... then I doubt its the valve.

Yeah it's weird how it acts up. You would think it would do it all the time. That's what makes hard to find the problem.

Trans probs can be tricky to diagnose, esp when they are intermitent like that. But I'd just go to a reputable trans shop in your area and have them go for a drive - idealy when it's actually happening, of course.
