Help With Stereo

20 minutes after i take off driving my stereo shuts off. And the only way to turn it back on is to shut off the vehicle and turn it on again. I have also noticed that it only happens on hot days, never happens to me at night. Anyone ever encounter this? And if so how do i fix it?

The only thing that I can think of is if (and I am not sure but would suspect) that a cooling fan (think computers) may not be working and the system shuts itself off because it is overheating.

This is really a guess but I think it may be worth looking into.

I agree. It sounds like something is getting too hot and shutting down. I'd get it checked by the dealer while you still have warranty.

Brand new to this forum ... forums in general actually ... but if I understand correctly you have a Pioneer head unit on an '07?

In any event, what you are describing sounds a lot like a cold solder on the circuit board. As new as it all is, is it under warranty?

Anyway, does the clock come up? Does the backlighting work? When I repair this sort of problem, I use a hairdryer (NOT a heatgun) to recreate heating up issues, and canned air to cool specific parts of the board to identify more specifically where the issue is on the board.

As well, especially if the problem can be recreated, put a test lamp on the back of the radio power lead to determine if the problem is inside or outside of the radio chassis.

Peace,

Ysfael

Iam not sure about the warranty due to the fact that i installed it myself and it is an aftermarket deck.

This makes me think its the GMLAN adaptor that turns on the unit. Maybe you can try bypassing it and powering the head continuously from a separate source.

Good Luck

I had the same problem with my 05 after I installed the aftermarket deck, come to find out it had something to do with the automatic headlight sensor (R2-D2 looking thing on dash), so I went out and bought the Scoshe DCGM09 (non-onstar, non-Bose) wiring harness, and it worked like a charm.

I'm not sure what Model Pioneer you have, you bio only says Pioneer. I am willing to bet it's an Avic Z1 or Z2. If so, check out this site:

http://www.avic411.com/forum/

That have everything you could ever want to know about fixing Pioneer AVIC radios.

The AVIC Z1 and Z2 had a problem shutting off, so Pioneer came out with a patch. You'll find the patch there, and you will also find directions to bypass all the safety features so you can edit your GPS, and watch DVD's while moving.

I hope this helps.
