Body Side Moldings Not On Ls Package

I ordered a 2008 Silverado WT regular cab with the LS Package. I was told by the salesman that the body side moldings come "included" with the LS Package. I told the salesman that the one thing that I definately wanted on my truck was body side moldings. The truck is due in any day from the factory. Anyways, I come to find out a few days back that the salesman was wrong about the moldings being standard because they only come standard on the Crew Cab with the LS package and NOT the regular cab. So bottom line is I know for a fact that my truck will shipped minus the body side moldings like I wanted and was assured of by the salesman.

So my question is, should I accept a truck equipped NOT the way I wanted it or do I refuse to accept it and make them install the moldings at the dealership, or if need be, just walk away from the deal if they refuse to install the moldings?

The funny thing is if you look on the Chevrolet Truck site under "Standard & Optional" equipment you'll see that body side moldings are "standard" on the LS Package.

A good dealer would be willing to add them for you at no-cost since the salesman screwed-up,I know we would.

Regular cabs only have moldings on the front doors anyway. Not sure why GM thinks it is necessary to scrimp on them but it looks stupid when the rest of the body doesn't have them IMO. I like the moldings, I just think they should run wheelwell to wheelwell for protection and better looks.

I agree with the others. Make your dealer put some on. It won't cost them much and it will save the deal. The salesman should be up on his product knowledge or not make claims he can't back up. It is, after all what he does for a living.

Do the ones added at dealer come pre-painted? Or do they come gray or black or primed?

Who color matches them?

Dealer CAN add them. I was suggesting that he have them added before picking it up. Most do come installed from the factory.

They can be ordered in color.

If you don't have them added before you take delivery good luck....I'm pretty cynical but I've never had any luck on stuff like that if it's not in writing.

Well, I'm going to be adamant this. I wanted body side moldings and the salesman told me they were included in the LS Package, so unless there on it they can keep the truck and I'll take my $25 grand elsewhere. Anyways, thanks for all your opinions. Right now I've got a 2000 Silverado and I hope this new truck is as good as the one I have now.

I just ordered a set for my extended cab. The come plain white. They have to be primed and painted to match. They cost $50.00 a piece. $200.00 in total for the whole truck un painted.

Paint. If one has had any paint work done lately, the cost of paint is quite high. Used to be that paint came in quarts pre-mixed. At least here, one goes to an autoparts store that does have paint, and the paint is mixed on site. All in all, paint is very expensive.

Maybe there are body shop guys out there that can explain better than I about paint.

I asked in a previous post if trucks are painted in water based paints.

And is aftermarket paint the same as factory paint?

They are enamel based or lacquar based paints. To get a matched base coat, get your paint code from the glove box take it to NAPA or another store that sells paint and have them mix it for you. You can buy it in pints. Clear coat only comes in quarts or gallons.

...going back to the bodyside molding subject. Adding these by the dealership is a royal PITA. Apparantly, it's common this year to get bodyside moldings only as a specified option on many brands (not just GM). My Chevy dealer was pissed when the first '08 Impalas arrived on their lot, minus the bodyside molding which they now have to specify ($100 option) on the order. Said it was stupid expensive to add them by the time they bought the molding, painted & installed them for customers that were insisting on them.

Thats easy to do if you don't buy it off the lot. Other wise your just stuck ordering them painting them and putting them on. Not a big deal to me.
