Truck Damage

I have a 2000 extended cab shortbox and today my girlfriend side swiped a pole. Theres a big dent in the right rear quarter panel of the box right behind the cab. Are the panels replaceable or is the box one whole piece? It almost looks like it could be popped out but then it would need to be repainted and what not. Any ideas?

The bedside panel is replaceable. It is a weld on panel best done by a good body shop. Without seeing your damage it is hard to know if what you have is a fixable dent or not.

A paintless dent removal place won't be able to fix that - if you look right in the center of that dent there are several creases in the metal where the pole hit. Also, at the top of the dent - it is creased as well. The paintless dent removal places are very good at getting just plain 'ol dents out - but that has a nasty scrape mark in the metal as well.

To answer your original question - I think that side panel will come off of the bed. You won't have to replace the entire bed.

That is gonna cost a pretty penny...I would guess somewhere around $1,500.

Last year I had a deer do that along the whole length of my bed and a ding in the cab. The body shop ended up replacing the side of the bed, and I think the cost was around $1,500.

That is a bummer.

THAT isn't going to be cheap.

Too much stretching in the metal. I'm sure somebody (Maybe BONDOMAN?) would "fix" it but what it needs is a bedside panel replacement.

I don't agree on the new girlfriend thing. If she is really REALLY sorry and takes good care of you, I think I'd keep her. Never know when you might need to play that "remember the truck card"... :(

lol... She does take care of me, getting rid of her wouldnt be the best thing to do. Plus now i've got the "remember the truck card" to go along with the "remember the car card"! Yes two vehicles shes banged up. lol

Its a good thing ive got full coverage and my deductible for comprehensive is only $250.

im pretty sure that the bed sides can be taken off and there just spot welded in. If you look along the inside of the bed there should be a bunch of little circles...i know some people that have put on fiberglass prerunner looking panels and to get the sides off they drilled out the spot welds and then had to rivet them back in (because it was fiberglass couldent be welded). So im guessing a body shop would do the same thing except instead of riveting them in they would weld them back on and repaint. So if im correct and your good with a welder might be a nice little side project.

If this was me, I would have titled the thread. Why I left my wife/girlfriend. :(

That sucks dude, with the creases the paintless dent removal more than likely wont work, at least the truck is white so it would be easier to match the paint than it would be a metallic color.

I dont think this is something I'll be able to fix. Upon further review of my insurance, it would be considered a collision and its a $500 deductible. Ahh well.... It looks like hell but at least its only cosmetic. I'll prolly have to live with it for now, cant afford a $500 deductible.
