Feedback Or Hum Type Noise From Ceiling

I have a 2005 Silverado Crew Cab LT with the bose system.

I'm not sure if it is a speaker or mic but it is small, about 1.5" or 2" diameter, and located above the drivers head on the headliner. I am getting a constant hum out of this when the truck is running no matter if the stereo is on or off. Maybe this speaker/mic is part of the OnStar system?

Anyone else have this problem or can offer solutions?

I had this same problem with my new truck for the first 3-4 weeks I had it. I could make mine stop by tapping on the mic in the ceiling where the hiss/hum was coming from.

I havent heard it lately, so I havent really looked any harder to see what the issue is. I think it just has a short, then once I tapped on it enough it would get better connection or something.

I have this exact same problem in my Tahoe. Its kind of a buzzing sound. I too have wondered what it is. I have also had a problem with my rear heat blowing cold air, and I was wondering if that was related. I am interested to see what others say it may be.

That little round 'speaker' thing in the headliner above the driver's seat is actually part of the hvac system and contains a small fan.

Your's wouldn't be the first the make noise. There are several threads on the forum regarding it.

I had the one in my truck replaced due to excessive noise.

There's a name for it, just don't remember right now. ;)

It's a ambient Temperature sensor, cost about 20 bucks. Easy to replace just remove the A pillar cover and gentle pull down the highliner and that it out.
