Locking Rear Diff

I have a 2000 NBS. My rear diff does not want to lock properly. When my rear wheel starts to spin, it tries to engage but make a really bad clunking noise and starts to "wheel hop". I changed the gear oil to Mobil 1 syn. but it did not make any difference. Rear ends functions just fine other than this problem.

 

Any ideas?
