My Truck Got Broken Into

I am posting this topic for a little help/advise. My truck bed was broken into. I had the Extang Saber tonneau cover with a NON locking tailgate. My problem is whether to obtain new passenger side frame rail for the tonneau cover or replace the entire setup with something else. If I do go the route of replacing just the passenger side frame rail, where could I get the parts? The most infuriating part is this tonneau cover was the “peel & seal” cover where you pulled the little tab on the cover from either back end and it would come off or you could drop my tailgate and steal whatever you wanted. NOOOOOO the jackass that stole a empty $5 toolbox put a crowbar (or something similar) under the frame rail and pulled up, thus destroying the entire rail............... without damaging the bed cap, paint or side of the box (Destroying a $300 tonneau cover and frame for an EMPTY $5 TOOLBOX and DIDNT STEAL THE IMPACT WRENCHES, CREEPER, CRAFTSMAN FLOOR JACK, JACKSTANDS or the LUG NUT BREAKER BAR ) . I will post pictures of what I found this morning later on tonight when I get home.

Must suck man, A d**n basket hit my truck and left a mess of scratches on it...I'm pissed. Good luck getting back up.

But I had a pickup truck years ago with a white painted aluminum wood panel inside cap. Just a shell but real nice.

 

I, too, carry a tool box in back.

 

I never locked the back top window/lift gate. The driver and passenger doors locked but not the back.

 

I was parked at a city metro parking lot to take subway to work. Daytime.

 

Anyway, the back is not locked. The boobs took a pry bar and bent the window frame to get in the back. All they had to do was turn the back latch as it was unlocked to open. And the few tools were only worth maybe 25 bucks.

 

Go figure.

Sorry to hear that - been there with my old 75 Camaro years ago - broke the dash to get the radio. I'd email or call Extang about part availability if everything else is ok, you really like the cover you now have and the price is reasonable. Otherwise, get a new or different one.

Wow, that sucks man. I guess they don't have security in that parking lot eh? It sure would be nice if theives would take some pride in their work and do things the right way. I mean, less damage on your vehicle, and they make out with more goods. Everybody wins! Well, sorta...

If you have the owner' manual for the cover, they will have a customer care number. This is the easiest way to get the parts you need. You can also find the number on their website.

Thanks for the quick replys..........If they dont have it, I will use this opportunity to replace it with an access cover...........Still dont want to have to hassle with it though (it is the F**KING holidays man AND it is cold)

Call up extang! They hooked me up with my cover... I have a full tilt and after about a year of use the brackets on the back got pretty beat up from me removing the cover , setting it on that part / and opening and closing improperelly..... well i called them up and they sent me new braces and corner pieces for free because of the manufactures warranty !! i bet they could help ya out!

 

Edit- if you do replace it , look into the full tilt snaples... thats what i got and love it! it still rolls back but yet it hinges open for quick access

ha I would rather run him down with the front end of my truck (plant the bowtie right in his ass for good measure) but the good thing is he (or she) did not do any body damage, just the tonneau frame rail is all busted...by the way, where on extang.com is the full tilt snaple? might be interesting.........

I say that because I just got a job with Progressive Insurance Co. and the laws here in texas have recently changed to something of the effect ("castle doctrine" that, as of September, no longer requires a Texan to retreat before using deadly force at his own "habitation" in the face of a perceived lethal threat which can include vehicles on your property) - Insurance licensing teaches you a wonder of things that can be used to one's benefit...... but I would not want to shoot, just make an everlasting print of my bowtie on his ass........I know I know, wrong but that is the way I feel......
