Rhino-lined Bottom Panels

Has anyone had experience with Rhino - Lining (or other sprayed-on bed liners) the lower portion of their trucks?

If so, would you do it again? Does it stay clean and looking good long-term?

Any downside?

THANKS!

I checked on getting my rocker panels Rhino-Lined, but after talking with a couple guys that had it done I decided not to do it. They had problems with it chipping and it gets discolored pretty quick, and there isn't any sort of warranty on it for that type of application. Part of my problem is that I live in the U.P. of Michigan, and we get lots of snow and have nasty roads for 6 months of the year with crushed mine rock, sand, and salt to deal with. I think in other areas the Rhino-Liner might hold up better. I was going to have the rockers stripped and then have rock guard sprayed on by a local body shop that uses some special rock guard that rally cars/baja trucks use (the owner is a big time rally fan and has 3 tricked out rally cars for his daily drivers). I ended up talking the dealer into redoing them using factory rock guard and paint under warranty, and the truck is going in Monday to get it done. If I didn't get this deal worked out, the rally stuff would already be on the truck.

I had a LINE-X liner in my last truck and I really liked it. I got a Rhino this time and would not do it again. It fades quickly and has a cheap feel compared to Line-x. If I could rip out the Rhino and redo it with Line-x I would do it in a heartbeat.

I know a couple of guys that have sprayed the lower part o their trucks, and both wish they had not....both have the Rhino and fading makes it look dull.

I can't say about the line-x fading as it was coverd for the two years I had the truck with a bed liner....sorry

the guy that owns the shop my truck bed was done at ... has a jeep that the full exterior and interior sheet metal is done in bedliner ...

i know he has beat the hell out of that thing for the past 10 years ... but other then some grime ... it still looks great ... i cleaned up a little spot on it and still looked as good as new once cleaned up ...

couldn't see any spots where it was chipping or cracking ... including an area in the rocker panel where he hit a tree ...

what they use is the same as line-x

Line-x has a new product that they spray on the bed liner that is supposed to keep it shiny. I saw a sample of it on his personal vehicle and it looked pretty good. Might be worth looking into.

I wanted to do this on my extended cab and was quoted $1000 for the rockers and another $515 for the bed over the rail by the local Line-X dealer, too much d**n money fo the rockers in my opinion.

I don't have the rockers done, but I have a Line-X "Bug Shield". I had it done a few years ago and it still looks great. When I took the truck to the shop I saw that Line-X had different colors (even a green almost matching my truck) and I thought of having my rockers done, but the guy told me that the colored Line-X will fade some compared to the black.

the reason they quoted that price is they have to tape off pretty much the entire truck .. before doing the rockers .. including under the truck on the frame area and such ...

and because of the type of taping .. it will have to be done in their spray booth ... instead of the normal 'taping the bed outside of the booth and driving in'

so 1,000 for the rockers sounds about right ... almost the same amount of spray as the bed .. (depending on how high you want them) ... but a LOT more masking off to do ...

I was quoted $500 to do mine - same as the bedliner. Although taping may take longer, the paint prep wouldn't take nearly as long, so it was a wash for them in terms of price.

Personally, I've seen too many trucks done like that with faded Rhino-Lining and it looks like crap. Of course, I don't think it looks good anywhere but the inside of a bed anyway. So it would look like crap to me if it were not faded at all. :( The faded just makes it look worse. I'm just not "Rhino-Liner crazy" like many people seem to be.

My two cents,

Tommy

That's a very good explaination but I do need to say Rhino quoted my $275 for the rockers while they would have to do the same tape job. So $725 more just for the Line-x material, I can't see that as being worth it.

The over the rail cost was only $20 more for the Line-X compared to Rhino making that a no brainer.
