Engine Light Not Coming On

took my 01 Suburban for emissions testing and was told that it failed automatically because service engine light did not work. Removed gauge cluster to inspect bulb and it seemed to be OK, bulb is part of circuit board and can not be changed like others, any advice?

does it work when you turn the key (not starting, just on)?

no, not at all

you could desolder that bulb and solder in another... or buy a new cluster, the FAR more expensive method.

I would get a wiring schematic for your vehicle and check the circuit from the PCM.

I'm just going to assume you have a 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0. If thats the case remove the cluster, disconnect the harness, connect 1 end of a testlight to Battery power BACK probe terminal b2 (brown wire white tracer) and turn key on. If you get light you need a bulb or cluster if you get no light you need a PCM or wiring.
