Went And Bought An Exhaust Tip

Recommended Posts

So today I was bored and I went and got myself a magnaflow stainless steel tip, went to the local exhaust shop (budget brake and muffler), they wanted $155 to install the tip. The stock pipe exits out the back and I want it to come out the side so they said they have to take out the whole exhaust system in order to bend the pipe. Should I go with this or look elsewhere.

Yep, go somewhere else. They should be able to cut off the existing tip, add/bend new pipe if necessary, and weld it back on.

What kind of tip did you get? If it's the standard stainless steel magnaflow tip (single-walled), just keep in mind that they do turn gold rather quickly. I'd suggest finding a stainless steel double-walled or resonated tip. Those will look shiny forever.

It's got like a mini-resonator built-in to the tip. You'll normally see small holes on the inside to help capture and reduce sound. Since they normally aren't that big they won't make a huge difference, but do quiet it down just a bit. But the main point was that they are also double-walled, so won't change colors.

I don't think that's really outrageous at all. You're talking 40-50 for good pipe and an hour or more labor. Maybe a little high but not out of the realm of possiblities.

Better off letting it come out the back. I am sure the noise/resonance/drone of the side exaust

magnaflow will make you crazy after the newness wears off !

That fartcan tip should be good for at least another 100 horsepower !

Bling-bling!

Yeah, but it sounds like they don't want to mess with it since he's bringing in his own tip. Especially given the somewhat high price and the fact that they told him they have to take down the entire exhaust system. So instead of the usual markup on the tip, they are probably trying to make up for it in labor. I mean, it really only takes them a few minutes to throw on a standard tip, and what little pipe they have to use (probably scrap laying around), isn't that much either. It's not like you're going for a full custom exhaust system.

I'd at least check around with another reputable exhaust shop to get a 2nd estimate, idealy a locally owned shop that really wants your business.

As for out the back or to the side. I think if you have 1 tip, it looks better out the side. Dual exhaust, that could go either way, but normally straight out the back.

Order a 45 degree bend pipe of the correct size from Summit Racing, they have them swedged on one end to fit over your stock pipe cut to length, clamp on. Cheap.

Go to Summitracing.com, The part number for a 45 degree bend 2.75 inside on one end and 2.75 out side on the other end is: WLK-41439.

I believe your pipes are 2.75 out side dia. Measure to be sure.

They also have them in 3" dia.

I went down to Midas and was asking the same exact thing...They didn't have a tip that I liked, but said if I purchased the tip elsewhere, they would install it on the side for $40 - $50 bucks.

I have the Magnaflow side exit exhaust and it's not even loud enough and there is barley any drone
