Hey all,

New guy here. Im in the market for a full size truck and have got it down to the either the new Tundra or a Sierra crew cab 4x4. My question is how is the ride of the Z71 package compare to the Z85? Ive heard the Z85 has the best on-road ride, but how does it fair off-road? I spend alot of time fishing and will use the truck off-road, but would probably upgrade the shocks on whatever suspension I get to adjustable Rancho 9000's.

The new sierra z71 is probably one of the smoothest vehicles I've driven. It is definately smoother than the 02 volvo we had, just as smooth as our new impala, and loads smoother than my 02 silvy. Haven't been off-road in any yet, so I can't tell ya about that. But if ya take them on snow/ice, its incredible. Its way better in 2wd than most awd vehicles I've driven.

I love my Z71! no real off road yet but have been on some back roads here in FL that are not the best by far and I was still cruising plush!!

for me the z85 suspension feels slightly smoother than the z71, but the z71 is extremely smooth as well.

Your choices were my 2 choices when I was looking for a new truck. Drove a tundra and the drive was nice , but the truck felt very big to manuver and on rough roads it was not that smooth a ride. Test drove the sierra, and I thought I was in a luxury car, very quiet and super smooth, even on really rough roads. Whatever you choose, make sure you drive both on different types of surface to get a real good comparison. My wife hated my previous bad choice (titan) and absolutely loves driving the sierra (when I let her).

The ride should be basically the same between the Z71 and the Z85. Z71 only adds shocks (which you plan on replacing), skid plates, G80 locking differential, and heavier jounce bumpers. And I believe most trucks come with skid plates anyway, and the G80 is included with the trailering package. In my opinion just get a Z85 and make sure it has skid plates on it. It would save you a bit of money.
