Service Brake Soon

Anyone getting the Service Brake Soon message on their 2007 or 2008 Silverado? I will be bringing my truck into the shop for the second time for this message. It's a shame seeing that I only have 158 miles on it. Anyone have any information on this? I think it is pulling a code of C0299.

They performed a system check and found a history code of C0299. They checked the VAC, booster, vac lines and wires. They could not duplicate the problem so the truckw as sent on its way. No more than 10 miles later the message is back.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may experience a "Service Brakes Soon" message on the Drivers Information Center (DIC). After initial inspection, you may find a current or history code C0299. Diagnostic code C0299 can result from two issues. One, an electrical concern with the Active Brake Booster solenoid or related wiring. Two, low vacuum detected in the brake booster.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Please use the following diagnosis for assistance on finding the cause:

If the DTC C0299 sets immediately at key up, the concern is most likely an electrical concern with the Active Brake Booster solenoid or the related wiring. Diagnose the concern using normal diagnostics in SI.

If the DTC C0299 sets occasionally while driving or when using cruise control, the concern is most likely related to a vacuum leak. Diagnose the concern using normal diagnostics in SI. DTC C0299 diagnostics will direct to the Brake Assist System Diagnosis to investigate for a possible vacuum leak. Follow the process to determine if a vacuum leak is present and the appropriate repair to fully restore the Assist System.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

No sweat, I was just relaying what I remembered from when I was with the tech earlier. I guess it was the #PIT4046C

....oh and to answer you PM sweetba1,

It wasn't my truck. It was a oilfield truck getting some service work done($6K worth), Fluids, brakes, tune up, rotors, egr, etc. 140K miles since June of last year, . There were a slew of DTC's, I just remembered this one cause it was new to me.
