Gm Bed Rail Caps And V1 Remote Display Installed Yesterday

The bed rail caps are easy to put on and I pretty much followed the instructions in the box. I've had them for a while but needed a warm day to install since the trim tape won't stick well if it's below 60.

The GMT900 has alot of space under the drivers side dash when compared to the GMT800. I can also fit my hand/forearm into the dash cavity from the fuse panel opening on the drivers side of the dash, this made pulling and securing the wire from above the steering column to the pillar quite easy. I literally only had to remove 3 screws to install this and connect it to the V1 hardwire I had already done above the rear view mirror. The 3 screws are: 1 in the pillar behind the plastic plug and two in the roof console under the light cover. You must remove the pillar trim to run wires to the headliner since they need to run with the OE wires and not interfere with the airbag in the pillar in any way...DO NOT just tuck the wire in the weatherstripping on the door side of the pillar!!! This took about 15 minutes to complete (YMMV, I was an installer many years ago and way GM interiors are put together hasn't changed much in the last two decades).

I created an albums today with many pics of my Denali and a few of my SL500. I will take some new pics of the 99 soon and post them too.

BTW: I think I'm dropping the truck off at the shop I used to work at tomorrow to install a Clifford 70.5x (if they can get one, else a 50.5x) alarm, Blinder M45 LIDAR jammer, Lockpick, rear camera, and bluetooth kit. I'm waiting to hear from the manager to see if they got all the parts.

I thought I was getting smooth but these arrived and I like them much better.

The design looks better and it goes with the truck well.

Would the GM part # be 17802470 for the 5'8" box?

Thanks

I ordered 17802473 but I thought this part number was the smooth. I already tossed the box and instructions so I don't think I can verify the part number for certain.

nice post. pictures are always appreciated. maybe I missed something but what exactly is the " remote display" that you installed and what does it do? also, I got my clifford 50.5X installed yesterday and I love it. I'm not sure what the diffrance between the 50.5X and 70.5X is but the 50.5X came with this sensor that detects impacts and it is mounted on the inside of the truck right above the rearview mirror. its a little box with two antennas sticking out the side.. I was unaware it came with this. the reason I'm bring it up is because it looks a little tacky. you might want to look into this before u get installed. ill post a picture when I get off work to give u a better idea of what I'm talking about.

How much do you like your V1? I have an 8500 X50B and am I like but I'd like to hear another opinion towards the V1

The V1 is by far the better radar!! :rollin:

+1 on the Valentine - plus you can send your module in for an upgrade - generally costs less that $100 to keep your module current rather than buying a new module every 3+ years

you sold me on the GM bed rails - a d*mn good match

For me the V1 is the only choice. Once you have the directional arrows you can never be happy with anything else. I've been a V1 user since 1993 and I own two (I used to keep one in each vehicle until I got the convertible). I also have a Passport SRX (in the SL500), it's the remote version of the 8500 with the ZR3 LIDAR shifter. I've also tried a pre-X50 8500 and it's great detector but not replacement for the V1 so I gave it to a friend. I have to pay retail for V1's ($399), I can buy an 8500 for $199 (wholesale) and I still choose to pay double for the V1.

I don't like that Passport nickels and dimes you for the necessary accessories like the hardwire kit, the V1 comes with both lighter and hardwire adaptors, curly and straight cord, visor clip and suction cup mount, extra fuse, extra suction cups...everything you could need but no useless, "pretty" case like the Escort. The one time I needed a V1 repaired out of warranty they did not charge me. I doubt Escort does free out of warranty repairs.

Thats the number that shows up for the GMC's. The number I had above was for the Chev.
