well guys ive had my 07 gmc nbs truck just over a year now. about 4 months ago it started acting up it was lagging to start so had battery checked-good, the only thing i could think about it alternator. but one time i couldnt start it i hit the onstar button and the lady said its showing drive belt. well sunday i when you start truck it lagged but started got about a block truck died in middle of street. well the dealership picked it up and yesterday they call me and say they found sugar in my fuel tank. well my question is how long can that sit in their before it screws your engine up and shuts it down. i think their is more to it. but i will find you did this because there is a finger print on gas cap. any info about the sugar will help!!!!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck but I watched a mythbuster one night and they poured sugar in a gas tank and tested it in an engine and it burned through all the fuel with no hic-cups but maybe with these new high tech engines some sensor got messed up. Keep us posted on the results.

Most of it will cause the fuel filter/pump to fail. It all depends on how much sugar is put in the tank.

I fueled up my car one day this past before coming home from work. Low and behold the next day I had half a tank a gas when I left the house. I know its the neighbors, but can prove anything.

....when you find out who it is, kick em in the balls for me. I cant stand somewho who messes with someone elses truck.

my neighbors will get a nut kicking some day too.

That really sucks though people of that caliber are a nuisance to society. When they pull the print find out who did it dont press charges wait a couple months and well you can fill in the blanks.

thanks gents how long can sugar sit in the tank before it ..... up your truck because my trucks been acting up for about 4 months i kind of thought it was an alternator or battery because of the lagging to start or not starting.

As I said before, it depends on how much was put in there. There no exact time on the effects to take place.

The first thing it will do is clog up the pump and filter. If it gets past that, the injectors are next.

i had to get my insurance company involved because this is vandalism and its not covered under warranty. the adjuster went out and said it looked like thick black guey substance sitting on bottom of tank. so i dont know what it is but its going to be fixed and i just have to pay my deductible of 500 dollars on 1300 dollars of damage.

Sorry to hear about your truck. I always put a locking cap on all my vehicles to help deter vandalism not to mention gas theives. Hope you can find out who did it......

Nope!!! In houston here the gas stations have green nozzles so i know i havent picked one of thoses up. Can it maybe be bad gas. That has built up over time?

I took auto mechanics in high school 35+ yrs ago. Because I owned a Corvair, I was given the job of repairing another Vair with sugar in the gas. It looked, and had the consistency of molassis. Had to rebuild both carbs, new fuel pump and clean fuel lines. I can't remember if we pulled the tank. Mark.
