Loose Bed?

i changed my shocks and now the bed makes a ton of noise, like its loose. i rechecked the bolts on the shocks and they seem tight, how much do you have to crank them down???

Make sure that the holes in the bottom of the shocks are of the proper size, or they'll rattle on the bolts no matter how tight you make them. Shocks will sometimes come with a couple of different sets.

I second that. If you have the wrong shocks, or they are simply just LOOSE because you didnt tighten those factory pinch type lock nuts, they will sound horrible...been there.

so i need different size bolts?the shocks are right ones. the shocks i bought had no bolts, i used what i had. i bought monroe gas magnums, there were no bolts, actually there never are. where do you get the bolts, anywhere??

Not the bolts...The steel sleeves that form the hole in the bottom of the shock that the bolt goes through. You can press different ones in. If the ones that are in there aren't a really close fit with the bolts, they'll rattle.

 

Take the bottom of one of the shocks off and swing it free from the mount, then stick the bolt through the hole in the bottom of the dangling shock. If it rattles, there's your culprit. If it's a tight fit, your problem is elsewhere. Matter of fact...You might want to do this with both of them. I seem to recall getting two different sized sleeves on two shocks of the same part number when I did my '92.

i'll check it and head to the parts place where i bought them.its only been a year or maybe less.

i went down to the parts store, he said there are no sleeves to push in and they are the right shocks. he said he would replace them anyway. i may try another set, maybe they were packaged wrong.
