who has used this company with a 06 GMC sierra 5.3 z-71? What type of tune did you get? I am looking for mileage, and HP, I don't want to F-up my trans!!! Like other tunes can do! I have hear great things from this company! Any info can help!

had w4me....not impressed...trust me. the negatives far outway the positives with this guy. Look at other posts and you'll see.. Check out nelsonperformance.com Give them a call, You'll be happier with them. Other people have had luck with W4me but I have not.

If you do a search, you'll actually find that most people are quite happy with the Wati4Me tune. Just give him a call, Jesse will take care of all of that. His standard "economy" tune that he gives most people will work perfect for you. More HP/TQ, bit firmer shifts, and perhaps even an increase in MPG depending on how you drive. Also unlike some tunes, by "default" he won't remove any Torque Management. This is done specifically to save the trans and help keep it running as long as possible. However, if you did want to remove TM, he can do that for ya. Just keep in mind that TM only applies to the shifts and won't make it go any faster or slower. Enjoy!

Umm wrong.. Ive seen stock vehicles pick up 2 to 3 tenths by just removing torque management. Heck my budies TBSS went from a 9.0 stock in the 1/8th to a consistent 8.7-8.8 with just TM removed..

With lots of power and at the track, sure you might see a slight increase. But this guy is obviously not looking to turn his daily driver truck into a race car.

TM only applies for about 5 hundreths of a second during a shift so that must have been one heck of a long drag strip to pick up that much time.

What is TM ?

TM = Torque Management. It's what GM and other manufactures use to electronically protect the transmission from damage. In the event an excessive amount of torque is being applied to the trans on a shift, it has the ability to pull back power if needed. On the track and/or in high HP/TQ vehicles, this will be felt as a lag or delay in shifts. Some custom tunes will remove all or some TM to improve shift times.

For a daily driver, it's not necessary to remove it. But for those that either have a strong (ie. rebuilt) trans and/or plan on taking their vehicle to the track, they will normally remove TM.

As a said 1/8th of a mile.. TM doesnt only apply to shifts.. It also slowly adds timing when you go WOT, versus the full timing as soon as you hammer down with TM removed.. You will feel a big seat of the pants difference with all of it gone..

lets not turn this into a TM debate....it DOES effect launch as well as the PE delay and the WOT delay that GM puts in. If you talk to Allen at Nelson Perf. He will tell you the real deal. Talking to Jesse is like pulling hens teeth. He is very reluctant to tell you technical info. The only thing he said is you'll like it...this didnt sit well with me but I tried him anyway....truck ran like junk...had spark knock and shifts were like being slammed in the A$$. With the nelson tune I had 100% TM removed. Just my prefrence, and the shifts get firmer the more you press the go pedal. The truth is you can ask to remove 100% tm but there is an untunable part for now, that pulls a little timing when you floor it off the line, but thats untill they unlock that table. Another thing.....when I spoke to jesse he said some people ask to remove tm and he doesnt do it....just tells them ok...this is from his mouth and made me quite uneasy. Hope you have good luck with whatever you go with.

What is TM ?

Torque Management

Torque management is a function of the PCM that reduces engine power under certain conditions. Torque management is performed for the following reasons:

To prevent over-stressing the powertrain and driveline components

To prevent damage to the vehicle during certain abusive maneuvers

To reduce engine speed when the IAC is out of the normal operating range

The PCM monitors the following sensors and engine parameters in order to calculate engine output torque:

The air/fuel ratio

The mass air flow (MAF ) sensor

The manifold absolute pressure sensor

The intake air temperature (IAT ) sensor

The spark advance

The engine speed

The engine coolant temperature (ECT ) sensor

The A/C clutch status

The PCM monitors the torque converter status, the transmission gear ratio, and the engine speed in order to determine if torque reduction is required. The PCM retards the spark as appropriate to reduce engine torque output if torque reduction is required. The PCM also shuts OFF the fuel to certain injectors in order to reduce the engine power in the case of an abusive maneuver.

The following are instances when engine power reduction is likely to be experienced:

During transmission upshifts and downshifts

During heavy acceleration from a standing start

When the clutch pedal is released too quick under a heavy load, 6.0L only

When one set of drive axles looses traction while the other set of drive axles are not moving, 4 Wheel Drive only and in 4WD low

If the IAC is out of the normal operating range, except 6.0L

When the driver is performing harsh or abusive maneuvers such as shifting into gear at high throttle angles or shifting the transmission from reverse to drive to create a rocking motion.

When you're feeling the lag and/or delay off the line along with just about everything else not involving shifting/TM, that's all controlled by other functions of the PCM, such as fuel/spark tables. Once those are adjusted, that's where the power is at. So if you request a 93 octane tune without any TM. You've basically got a whole lot of power and nothing to prevent any damage to your drivetrain. And lets face it, most of these GM trans aren't exactly "strong" from the factory. But that's why they call 'em a custom tune. You can pretty much do whatever makes you happy. It's your truck. :)

TM+PE delay+WOT delat = no power off the line

You can remove all the TM and still have a long life for your trans...(all depends on the driver not beating the crap out of the truck).....along with removing it, you have you TCM tuned to firm up shifts/ which causes less slipping when shifting in turn cuts down on heat and wear.

Clearly our definition of TM is different. My info is based from the guy who developed the EFILive tuning software. So I tend to go with that info. But regardless of all that, if you no longer have TM pulling power on shifts when it wants to save the trans, how can you say it won't reduce the life of an already weak transmission? You can still increase shift firmness without messing with TM. Not to mention, who is going to pay for more power and not go WOT every once in awhile to FEEL the power? Doesn't mean you are abusing the vehicle, you're just driving it, right? Unless you drive like grandma everywhere...

Agree to disagree.... :) I didnt say that it wont reduce the life of the trans..they are not as weak as you think. Since the new ones have an updated clutch pack and harder components. For me since I removed the TM my low end grunt is unbelievable. With none removed, it was a slug IMO. I like to feel the power throughout the whole rpm range and not have to punch it to get anything out of the truck.
