Got Wrecked Last Night

Picked up the family at the airport (Newark, NJ) coming back from a trip, and was heading home last night to MA when an '07 Suburban decided to make a pass he shouldn't have. Caught 3 other cars, but his and mine got the worst of it. I was doing the speed limit when he hit me and spun us around. We went about 100+ yards backwards. The RR tire blew out, and I'm sure the backwards/spinning wasn't good for the engine and tranny.

 

The truck wouldn't start for over an hour. Then suddenly, it ran. I drove it onto the flatbed (to avoid the damage the tow guys can do), I had it towed to a parking lot, and I put the spare on it and limped it 60 miles home. My daughter was in her car seat in the right rear, and the wife was in the left rear. seat. Thank goodness, no one was hurt. Testament to the truck and its safety. I was really surprised, actually, that (1) she didn't roll over considering where we got punched, and (2) that I could even drive the thing after the hit and spin.

 

Used the OnStar to call the accident in.

Glad every one was OK. I just went through the insurance BS a little over a year ago. I would not wish the burden on my worst enemy. The accident the I was in was not my fault either. Hope every thing works out for you.

Sorry to hear of your accident, it can be quite tramatic to go through a major crash, for years after it can still come back to haunt you in certain situations. Your comment " Testament to the truck and its safety" rings through on most American built vehicles, the seat belt is the best safety invention ever made mandatory. Although this is a GM forum, and I've stuck to GM almost my whole life, about 4 years ago we rolled our Ford Explorer after emcountering some black ice at about 50 mph (80 kmh Canadian) . The vehicle did a 360 then a complete in air flip and rolled twice before ending up about 50' of the road on our driver's side. Both my wife and I walked away without a scratch, although the SUV was a writeoff with just about every window broken. We still count our blessings, and when I think of the late 60s thru 70s and all the mishaps I had a as an idiot young driver, I thank goodness for safety standards in the auto industry.

wow thats horrible, but it looks like that might be able to be fixed, should need a cab, bed and door, or cab pieces bed and door, but thats still some nasty sheetmetal bending

glad to hear you guys are OK and doing well. Trucks you can replace but family is a different story. There are alot of stupid people out there and I am sorry you had to meet one of them.

You hate to see it happen but I bet your glad you went through that accident in that type of truck. OnStar is far better than a cell phone in these situations.

 

You won't believe the bill to fix these things though. Mine was over 19k and it was an easy job for the shop to do.
