Those of you considering a new Silverado with a VortecMax 6.0, here is my MPG info from my first six tanks. Truck is a 2008 Silverado 4X4 Crew 3.73 VortecMax 6.0 with 20 inch wheels.

Tank 1

DIC- 14.5 mpg

Actual- 14.2

Tank 2

DIC- 13.9 mpg

Actual- 13.8

Tank 3

DIC- 17.0 mpg

Actual- 17.5

Tank 4

DIC- 16.2 mpg

Actual- 15.8

Tank 5

DIC- 15.4 mpg

Actual- 15.5

Tank 6

DIC- 17.1 mpg

Actual- 16.7

OVERALL thru 6 tanks- 15.51 MPG ACTUAL.

No towing was involved. It's very easy to tell which tanks were mostly highway and which were mostly city driving. Overall I am really very pleased. I had been hearing horror stories about 6.0 gas mileage.

Also...Curious what MPG other are getting with their new VortexMAX Silverados..

Chuck, did you happen to notice how accurate the DIC was on consumption?

I have always questioned the accuracy of the DIC, some times the DIC is within a couple tenths of the pump amount, other times it can off be over 1.5 gallons. Also, when I compare the guage to the DIC consumption, it just does not make sense. At half a tank, it states I've burned through a little over 9 gallons, but I have a 26 gallon tank (unless half of 26 is 9 at GM). I understand that some of the difference is reserve, but that seams like a big difference.

Just curious if it's just my truck or a common thing with the DIC and fuel guage.

The best I have ever gotten is 13mpg and the worst 11 mpg. Supposedly once I was getting 15 mpg in the DIC it said. My V-Max wastes a lot of gas, but it is still cool.

What kind of speed were you going when you got the 17.5 tank. Obvisoully it was highway, but 65? 70? 75? just curious, thanks

Good question! I was holding 70-71 mph on interstate, 62-63 mph on 2-lane.

Was that photo taken at Riverchase Galleria? Near Costco? Seems familiar.

Madison Square, Huntsville, AL. I think most malls look alike anyway!

Not a Silverado, but a Sierra 6.0L. Worst that I have seen was 14.2, that was in snow, in traffic, and in 4x4. Best that I have seen was a hair over 20 but that is driving 65-70 on the highway, with it about 70 outside, and the AC off.

Just the difference between using a 10% Ethonol blend will make a difference of 2 MPG or so. If I see the 10% sticker on the pumps ,I pullout and go elsewhere.

Not an option most places. ALL gas has 10% Ethanol in it during the winter here in MN. Most use it year round though.

Where did you get your numbers?

A gallon of E10 has 97% of the energy of a gallon of gasoline. I doubt that equates to a difference of 2 MPG.

Ethanol has a horrible tendency of picking up water. Maybe he got some E10 that had some water in it and it was affecting his mileage?
