I'm not a fan of these noise violation laws especially when there enforced stupidly.

I was driving on main street pull from a stop light next thing you know theres one of Conway's finest.

He was talking about loud pipes was disturbing and can destract others.

I hit him back with ; " Its main street who am I disturbing? Also, the fact they can hear me lets other drivers know I'm there so they dont pull out infront of me. "

I'mma go to jail one day over a cop pulling me over.

Because they stopped you, the law was enforced stupidly??? Real loud pipes do annoy me. Not neccessarily trucks, but those Harley's that are damn loud do.

C'mon... the major reason people make their trucks or bikes really loud is to get others to look at them.

I only stop people when they're being irresponsible with it, like racking it out near a residential area at 2 AM...that's gonna get a ticket every time. Otherwise, I don't mind people's exhaust or stereos.

Loud pipes on bikes save lives. With that said, there is a point where it get's a little extreme.

When you sit outside downtown eating or having coffee there is always some clown that needs to rev his harley while coasting up to a red light. It's too bad his dad didn't play catch with him growing up, he wouldn't be craving so much attention.

I agree.

So maybe I'll drive around with my horn blaring all the time to save my life. Not trying to offend anyone. I realize motorcycles are harder to see but justifying loud pipes as a 'safety device' does not make much sense. C'mon were you really down at the shop wanting loud pipes to be cool or to be safe? If safety was a conecern a horn would be better suited.

Noise laws are there for a reason, because people abuse them. Even noisy brakes are prohibited in some areas, (Jake Brakes) what is more safe than brakes?

I can't stand obsessively loud fart cans and pipes on trucks.... and I also can't stand those highschoolers with 6 12 inch subs...

come on up to Michigan, Straight Pipes are the norm. :D

Like already mentioned, if they're not being ubnoxious (revving at stop lights, running to redline downtown) I don't have a problem with them. The sweet sound of a V8 always puts a smile on my face, especially the old 350 vortec's with their crackling.

Boy I can tell most of you here don't ride a motorcycle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loud pipes DON'T save lives! They may sound good on a HD BUT

most ignorant fools in their "cages" have NO regard for anybody

riding on a scooter (aka motorcycle) !!!!!!!!!!

They are too busy yacking on their cell phones, applying makeup,

or fooling with the radio !

If you "ride to live-live to ride" its YOUR own responsibility to watch

out for the axxholes so they don't kill you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is precisely whyI got rid of my motorcycle back in 2001....CELL PHONES!!! It was bad enough before, but with so many people on their cell phones, it just got out of hand.

As for loud pipes on bikes. I have had a few bikes in my day, but never a Harley (I only wished!!). But my last bike I bought used with aftermarket loud (but not obnoxiously loud) pipes on it. I could tell right away going from my "quiet" Yamahopper to my "Loud" Magna that people were more aware of my presence, especially on the freeway.

But yeah, driving a motorcylce requires a completely different perspective than driving a car. You HAVE to assume nobody can see you and the most important thing to remember is: "Always have a place to go" when someone cuts you off. IOW, don't drive in the center lane with cars on all sides of you. Having a shoulder to go onto or a ditch to go into may just save your life.

Loud pipes do create additional awareness as it enters another sense into the situation....sound. Being heard will aid in being seen. Common sense!!!

Not to jack this thread but I thought Id share, Back when I picked my girlfriend now wife up from high school back in some 27 years ago (I know I showed my age) there was a county police officer that lived across from the school, I had a 75 impala with duel exhaust with straight through Thrush mufflers and I love the way it sounded when letting of the gas pedal and letting the motor wind down in low gear. Well I went by his house about 3 times letting it letting the exhaust rattle down not thinking (young) and later parked in front of the school to wait for her to come out. I looked over and saw him come out thinking hummm he must be going to work it was around 2pm well he got in his car drove down the road made a right turn in the school driveway and I said to myself awwww sheeeet. Well the rest of the story, he was working midnight shift and was sleeping so I got a ticket for loud exhaust. After he got done writing me the ticket he got back in his car went back home.

You are correct sir, and I have had aftermarket pipes on all my machines. I consistently noticed more awareness from when they are new and quiet as opposed to after the louder pipes were installed. I have been riding since 1988. And Jeff, don't forget 16 exclamation points next time, okay?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
