Ok. After 2 months of battling GM customer service, which sucks by the way, I have successfully added cruise to my truck!!! Here is my story, along with some specific details you will need to successfully add it to yours, and hopefully no one else on this forum will have to endure the events I have endured.... A few months ago, November of 09 to be exact, I installed a leather steering wheel in my 09 Crew Cab Sierra. The steering wheel I installed was purchased from LKQ through one of their Ebay auctions. It had the stereo controls, as well as the cruise control buttons, and matched my interior colors to my satisfaction. I knew before installing it that I would at least need a new clockspring with the additional conductors in it for both the stereo controls, and cruise controls. So, I ordered a new clockspring from GMpartsdirect.com, installed it after taking the cover off my steering column and verifying that I did indeed already have the correct column wiring harness that has enough conductors to mate up with the new clockspring. I installed the new clockspring and steering wheel. The radio controls were plug and play and operate my Onstar and stereo flawlessly without any additional modification, and all the buttons on the steering wheel already light up at night along with my cluster. I also verified that the cruise control switch on the steering wheel would also light up orange, indication the cruise switch was operational. So, at this point I knew all I needed was for the cruise option to be programmed into my BCM. I called my local dealer and they said that GM no longer allows them to turn this option on, and that it is out of their hands. I then tried to bribe a service tech into attempting to research it further and find out if it could really be done, or if my service manager was filling me full of bull. The tech informed me after about a week that it cannot be done. He said GM has it blocked out of the TIS system as an option, and it cannot be enabled. I was still determined, so I called GM Customer Service. I spoke with an asian woman who spoke broken English for about an hour before she realized my situation. She later referred her manager to me who claimed to be my district customer service rep. I spilled my heart to him for another half hour, explaining that I am very pleased with my new truck, but need cruise activated. The conversation escalated into an argument when he accused me of installing aftermarket parts on my truck. I told him NO, these are GM factory parts! He then informed me that if the parts were not installed on my truck on the assembly line then they are considered aftermarket. (Does this mean that when my dealership warranties anything on my truck that they are installing aftermarket parts and not GM parts????? I guess so!) I abruptly ended my phone conversation after he made that remark, and luckily the next day I called a GM Techline number that I found online. When they answered the phone they requested a dealer code, and my name. I explained to them that I am an individual trying to find out what it would take to add cruise to my truck. The gentleman on the phone asked what model truck and I told him 2009 Sierra Crew Cab. He said "that is definitely do-able."... I was delighted to hear this! I next asked what I needed to do, and he said to have my service writer call Techline and they would tell the service writer what procedures to take to add it. He then informed me that a couple of years ago GM supported adding cruise to the NBS trucks, then stopped supporting it at all, and now as of last September they have started supporting it as long as there is correct documentation of the parts that have been added. My service writer and I tried 5 times before we got the documentation correct!! They are extremely picky about the documentation! You must have the following, and it has to be written up on a single service work order! Here it is:

1. Reciept of purchase for Steering wheel. (LKQ price of $80.00 on Ebay)

2. Receipt of purchase for clockspring. (P/N 15829094 (Around $50.00))

3. Receipt of purchase for column wiring harness. (P/N 25807859 with towing package & 25807858 without towing package (Around $70.00))

(Dont bother arguing that your truck already has the needed wiring harness! They do not care, and will not help you! You must provide a reciept for the harness, regardless of whether or not you use it!)

The way I understand it is that salvage recycled parts are ok, as long as you have the reciept. My steering wheel was a recycled part from LKQ. Anyway, your service writer will need to call Techline and explain that you want cruise added, fax this documentation to them, and they will have a new CAL file available for your truck within 3 hours. It would probably be best if the service writer calls them and request the new CAL. After they have processed your request and assigned a new CAL it will permanently be updated in their records for your truck's VIN. So, in the event your BCM goes bad, when the tech installs a new BCM and downloads your CAL file it will automatically add cruise to your BCM programming. This cost me 2 hours of shop time at the dealer, and a $55.00 software fee to total $210.00. Now my cruise works great, and it is factory!!! Hope this is a help to everyone wanting to add cruise!! Thanks.

This procedure really works,If you want cruise on your W/T and I also have audio controls to boot. The tech told me the radio controls wouldn't work but when I tried it they did. Evidently he didn't test those out first. I think he thought they had to be programmed into the bcm also. This is a great upgrade!! This should be pinned so it is easier to find.

I went the easy way and had the local car audio and electronic store add aftermarket cruise on my 2010 WT. I believe the brand is "Rostra." Works flawless and no headaches or arguing with GM. Great product!!

I know this is an old thread, but I'd still like to add cruise to my nbs 2007 regular cab Sierra-- after pricing out the new ones, I plan to keep this one for a while yet! If there's a list of required parts and part numbers, that would make it easy to order up the parts that I need. When I bought my truck, I was told that it only needed a new combination switch and that the harness was already there, but apparently that was for the early old style 2007 trucks. There were both styles on the lot yet when I bought mine.

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
