Lift Kits With Afm

Hey I have a question for the guys with lift kits and AFM motors. Does your AFM turn on any or is the tires and everything prevent it from going into AFM?

hmmmm

interesting question...ih ope someone answers

i would think it would still turn on, cuz it's based on engine RPM isn't it?....probably just wouldnt come on very often haha

The engine is indifferent as to the height of the truck. If the proper criteria are met for AFM to kick in, it will. Bigger tires and more wind resistance will most likely reduce the frequency that you truck uses AFM but it will not turn it off completely.

I would imagine if you go with a big enough tire for it to really affect afm, you would probably need to regear anyways if you wanted any torque at all...

Or if you wanted to keep your transmission.

AFM?

Yeah, it's a new Radio Transmission frequency. They combined AM and FM and it's now just AFM.

J/K AFM = Active Fuel Management

To be honest, if you are lifting I don't think MPG should be a concern. If it is, and you lift, you are just going to be pissed off all the time worrying about gas mileage... No one wants to be unhappy about a modification, especially one that you may not be able to reverse.

i was told that when you lift a nnbs and put bigger tires on it that the wheel sensors will give a "check tire pressure" message because of the higher psi in the bigger tires, is this true?

Thanks for your input. I was just checking for when I get my lift put on (trying to pass some time). Its been sitting in customs for 10 days now  .. I am going to chip it after and have them bump up the throttle % before it kicks out.

Yep, but a simple re-cal of the RDL module will take care of that. You have to change the nominal tire pressure. You need a Tech2 scan tool, or a GM dealer will do it for you. Cost me $65.
