I have a bad rattle on both passenger and drivers side windows when they are down. Im not sure what it is that is making it rattle has anyone else heard of this on an 04 chevy silverado ext cab? Anyway if you get a chance mike can you post the diagrams for the drivers and passengers side doors so i can figure out what i need to take them of and see if somethings loose before i bring it in to get fixed. Thanks

Hey Mike, while you're at it, can I have some wiring diagrams of the power window (and mirror) option for my year rig? I am getting closer to doing this for my truck and would like to see what I am up against.

Couple of questions for you....does it rattle on smooth surfaces, bumpy, when turning, loaded, unloaded, metallic rattling, soft rattling....???? there are some things that can rattle, but it does depend on what is going on...

Outside Rearview Mirror Replacement (Power Mirror)

Removal Procedure

 

  1. Remove the trim panel upper extension. Refer to Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement .

  2. Remove the insulator, if equipped.

     

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  4. Remove the nuts securing the outside mirror to the door.

     

  5. Remove the mirror from the door.

     

Installation Procedure

  2. Install the outside mirror to the door. Press the mirror into place.

  3. Connect the electrical connector.Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

     

     

  4. Install the nuts in order to secure the outside mirror to the door.Tighten

    Tighten the outside mirror nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

     

     

  5. Install the insulator, if equipped.

     

  6. Install the trim panel upper extension. Refer to Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement .

Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement

Removal Procedure

 

  1. Open the front door.

  2. Release the upper extension by pulling outward on the front edge in order to release the upper retainer clips.
  3. Remove the upper extension from the trim panel by lifting up and out.

Installation Procedure

  2. Position the lower retainer to the trim panel.
  3. Align the upper retainer clips to the door frame.
  4. Press inward on the upper extension until the clips fully engage securing the panel to the door.

Removal Procedure

 

  1. Remove the front door trim panel upper extension. Refer to Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement .

  2. Remove the nuts that retain the outside mirror to the door.
  3. Remove the outside mirror from the door.

Installation Procedure

  2. Install the rearview mirror to the door, pressing the outside mirror into place.Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. Outside Rearview Mirror Glass Replacement (DL3, DR4, DL8, 5M1)

Removal Procedure

Caution: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

 

Notice: When servicing electrochromic glass that is broken, or if glass breaks during servicing, be cautious not to spill electrochromic fluid onto vehicle. Doing so will cause damage to the vehicle.

  2. Adjust mirror face as shown in picture to obtain access to mirror face retention clips (1).
  3. Position a flat-bladed tool between back side of mirror face and the adjuster mechanism as shown in picture.
  4. With a twisting motion of the flat bladed tool, separate the mirror face from the adjuster mechanism by releasing the mirror face retention clips (1).
  5. With mirror face in hand, disconnect the electrical connectors.
  6. Remove the mirror face from the mirror housing.
  7. Inspect the adjuster mechanism for damage.

Installation Procedure

  2. Inspect the components for any damage. Ensure that the mirror face has all the retention clips in place.
  3. Plug in the electrical connectors to the back of the mirror.
  4. Align the mirror face retention clips with the adjuster mechanism.

  5. Gently press the mirror back into the adjuster mechanism with the palm of the hand on the center of the glass until it locks into place.
  6. Inspect the operation of the mirror.

Power Mirror Switch Replacement

Removal Procedure

  2. Remove the power accessory switch panel. Refer to Power Accessory Switch Panel Replacement .
  3. Remove the power mirror switch from the accessory switch panel using a flat-bladed tool in order to release the retainer tabs.

Installation Procedure

  2. Install the power mirror switch, pressing the switch into place until fully seated.
  3. Install the power accessory switch panel. Refer to Power Accessory Switch Panel Replacement .

Power Accessory Switch Panel Replacement

Removal Procedure

  2. Insert a flat-bladed tool into the slots on the power accessory switch panel in order to release the retainer clips.
  3. Remove the switch panel.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switches.
  5. Remove the screws from the switches.
  6. Remove the power accessory switches from the switch panel.

Installation Procedure

 


  1. Notice: Refer to
Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
 
Install the power accessory switches to the switch panel.Tighten
Tighten the power accessory switch screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
 
Connect the electrical connectors to the switches.

Door Wiring Harness Replacement

Removal Procedure

 

  1. Remove the hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.

  2. Disconnect the cross body wiring harness.
  3. Remove the conduit.
  4. Remove the trim panel upper extension. Refer to Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement .
  5. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  6. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .

  7. Disconnect the following components:

    The outside power mirror (1)

     

     

    C203 (4)

     

     

    P500 (5)

     

     

    The speaker (6)

     

     

    The power window motor (7)

     

     

    The power lock switch (8)

     

     

    The power window switch (9)

     

     

    The power mirror switch (10)

     

     

    The door lock actuator

     


  8. Remove the door wiring harness from the door, pulling it through the conduit (3).

Installation Procedure

 

  1. Install the door wiring harness to the door, pulling connectors 4 and 5 through the conduit (3).

  2. Connect the following components:

    The outside power mirror (1)

     

     

    C203 (4)

     

     

    P500 (5)

     

     

    The speaker (6)

     

     

    The power window motor (7)

     

     

    The power lock switch (8)

     

     

    The power window switch (9)

     

     

    The power mirror switch (10)

     

     

    The door lock actuator

     


  3. Install the water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  4. Install the trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  5. Install the trim panel upper extension. Refer to Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement .
  6. Install the conduit.

Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement

Removal Procedure

 

  1. Remove the door handle bezel. Refer to Door Handle Bezel Replacement .
  2. Remove the window handle, if equipped. Refer to Door Window Regulator Handle Replacement .
  3. Remove the power accessory switch panel. Refer to Power Accessory Switch Panel Replacement .
  4. Remove the trim panel upper extension. Refer to Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement .
  5. Remove the trim panel screws.

  6. Remove the courtesy light, if equipped. Refer to Door Courtesy Lamp and Reflector Replacement .
  7. Remove door panel screws.
  8. Remove the trim panel from the door, carefully sliding the trim panel up to release the retainers from the door.
  9. Remove the speaker wire.

Installation Procedure

  2. Install the speaker wire.
  3. Install the courtesy light, if equipped. Refer to Door Courtesy Lamp and Reflector Replacement .
  4. Install the trim panel to the door by carefully aligning and sliding the panel down into the retainer slots.
  5. Install the window handle, if equipped. Refer to Door Window Regulator Handle Replacement .
  6. Install the power accessory switch panel. Refer to Power Accessory Switch Panel Replacement .Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
     
  7. Install the trim panel screws.Tighten
    Tighten the trim panel armrest screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
     
  8. Install the trim panel upper extension. Refer to Upper Extension Trim Panel Replacement .
  9. Install the door handle bezel. Refer to Door Handle Bezel Replacement .

Door Handle Bezel Replacement (Inside Front)

Removal Procedure

 

  1. Insert a flat-bladed tool between the door handle bezel and the trim panel in order to release the door handle bezel tab retainers.

  2. Remove the door handle bezel from the door panel.

Installation Procedure

  2. Position the door handle bezel into place in the door trim panel.
  3. Install the door handle bezel to the door panel, pressing the bezel into place until fully seated.
