Slow Fuel Tank Fill

What's the chances I can fix a vent solenoid valve?

Slim to none but there is an updated part and a kit to move it to an area that isn't as likely to get plugged up. I sent you to a thread with the bulliten on my 3rd post go check out that thread.

The only loose end to tie up is: Just what in tarnation is that little hose at the top of the fuel filler for?!?

Again I'm feeling a little stupid because I just don't know I never really paid attention and It has never caused me any troubles. Good luck to you on the fix.

Thanks, Spartech. I'm going to work on it a little in the hopes that "stuck shut" is really "clogged outlet port". I did read about the relocation kit and I guess if I (or is it "when I"?) give up on playing with the vent solenoid valve this afternoon I'll look into it further.

Keep up the good work on the forum and have a good one!

Update: Working on a VSV (Vent Solenoid Valve) is futile. It is glued together and can not be disassembled. Sawed apart, maybe. When you get tired of playing with it, you can hook it up to your air compressor and blow the valve seat and return spring right out of the exhaust port :D . But you can't disassemble it.

The VSV is a single-acting (as opposed to a pilot actuated) solenoid valve with a paper-thin rubber valve disc. This disc has a very light coil spring to hold it open when de-energized.

During my inspection, I found the exhaust filter 'can' fairly clean. There was a white filmy substance around the inside of the can (dried road salt?) , but it looks like nothing got past the filter to the inner section where the VSV exhausts. I separated the filter can from the VSV. There was no clog in the VSV exhaust port.

So my VSV was stuck shut. I applied a little air to the canister side through the quick-disconnect tube. Air did not blow out the VSV exhaust port even though it should have been open.

At that point I gave up trying to fix it (and began playing with it). I'll buy a new one tomorrow.

Hopefully, this will help someone else. It should at least be mildy amusing :nono: .

Nice you sound like me. When there is something broke around the house and I'm pretty sure it's going to get replaced anyway I'll F with it for hours just checking out how it works and seeing what happened. My girlfriend always says "you know for what you make an hour you could have went to work and bought 2 of that thing your messing with". Well what fun is that and what will I learn. Funny thing is I've probably replaced a thousand vent valves and never messed with one aside from looking into the exhaust port. Guess I'm not that curious at work.

I'm dealing with the exact same problem currently on a 05 Denali. This entire post describes my problem and my vehicle's technology perfectly. Ordered the valve tonite from [email protected] with shipping so no big deal. While I'm waiting I'm going to unhook that vent line from the canister tomorrow and try filling the tank. Hey, man, it's 18 degrees outside, I don't wanna be standing there for 10 mins to get 10 dollars worth of gas in it.

I am having the same issue with my 2011 silverado with...

LC9 - VORTEC 5.3L V8 ENGINE, ALUMINUM BLOCK, FLEX-FUEL W/ ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT

The check engine light was on and Autozone said it was the gas pressure sensor that was the issue.  However now that I have read about the vent solenoid being stuck I don't know what to believe.  When i try to fill up the tank, I have to fill at the slowest setting on the gas nozzle and it trips the nozzle within 5 seconds or so.  It trips the nozzle really fast when the tank is virtually empty, but once i get a couple gallons in the tank it will run longer before tripping the nozzle if i keep the gas nozzle at the slowest speed.  This is very annoying and i want it fixed.  Just wondering if anyone can verify what replacement kit needs to be ordered for this issue.

Thanks

This is only the second time I have filled the tank.  I bought the truck a month ago and this issue was already there.

I have replaced the fuel pump, charcoal canister, the purge valve vent and the purge valve canister near the charcoal canister. I have pressure hose sprayed out all the surrounding hoses near the gas tank darker colored gas smelling fluid came out slowly when it was done. I have also took the filler neck off the gas tank and pushed in the small door  several times to make sure that wasn't the problem and still fueling very slowly and the nozzle is still clicking on me after i get in about $1.00 of gas. My last hope of fixing this . I believe is the vent hose the under the car near the filler neck I'll have to remove the filler neck and then try and pry the hose loose then disconnect it from the gas tank and the connection to the gas tank has been cleaned already  so I'll see. Can anyone tell me what has fixed their slow filling problem I haven't found a clear solution fix anywhere yet, I have found that if take the hose off the canister i might be able to fuel my truck without it shutting off the nozzle so quickly momentarily i haven't tried it yet i want to fix the problem indefinitely i will upload some pictures of all things i have replaced.
