Is This Normal?

I have noticed when I'm just cruising I can hear my a/c compressor kick on. I have never noticed it before but that may be because my music is loud. I had my girlfriend in my truck and she doesn't like loud music so I could hear it. I do not have the a/c on and I have the vents selected to blow directly at me and on the floor. My truck is a 2004 Silverado with the automatic climate control. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

My 01 Silverado clicked loudly when the compressor kicked in. That and I could hear the relay under the dash. On my 07 I can't hear the compressor kick in but the cooling fan spools up like a turbo.

No, that is not normal. Most girls like loud music.

If you're NOT running your A/C or defroster the compressor should not be cycling at all.

+1 When you run the defrosters the a/c comp kicks on to keep the system lubricated.
