2006 Silverado Stock Stereo Connections?

Recommended Posts

I am looking to add a subwoofer to my stock stereo in my 2006 silverado crew cab. I'd appreciate if anyone has information as to the outputs on the stock stereo. Are there preamp outputs? If anyone has pictures that'd be awesome!

do you have a bose system? if so the easiest way is to buy a pac adapter and add the sub that way. you dont have to cut any wires--you just add the adapter near the bose amp and then add in your amp. pac adapter# AOEM-GM24. if you dont have bose then maybe someone else will chime in.

Sorry I should have specified, I just have the standard non-bose system. The head unit was some kind of "west texas package" that's a CD + Cassette combo. Yeah I know don't laugh, but I didn't care to spend extra cash just to swap to a head unit w/o the cassette. I will try to snap a pic to show exactly what I have. Would it be ok to run the sub off the rear door speakers (obviously providing the amp has an active speaker line in).

I do not believe that there is a device that will allow what you want to do (that is with preamp outputs).....

Yes that is exactly it. Shucks. Would you happen to know if the full frequency range is sent to the speakers in the rear doors? I suppose if I got an amp with line level inputs I could do it that way? Any thoughts?

And while we're at it, what is everyone's thought on subwoofers in a crew cab? Behind or under the rear seats?

I have got a crew myself (06 YM) and I would say to do it under the seats simply because of the rear air vents that are in the way on the rear wall behind the rear bench...

That would be more logistical (without destroying anything...) as for the range, I am not sure that this information is available, but I would assume it is full range. I will look around to see if any information on that is available.

I would say stock from the head unit would be 40-22K, which means the entire spectrum is sent to the rear speakers in the doors.

what is the "flip panel" and "side vent"? I do not believe I have any rear air vents.

edit: and wow sweet, that box can come w/the eD subs, those are the exact ones I wanted to use

Can anyone recommend a good hole in the firewall to re-use? (or if there even is one). Of course I'd like to run the amp power cable on the driver's side, as that's where the battery is. I've taken a look but it looks as though the holes are pretty blocked off. Any suggestions?

there are a couple rubber boots in the firewall. push one of them out and cut a small x in it and run the wire thru there. thats how i have done all mine................
