I Bought Another Car!

I picked up a 94 Corvette Convertible yesterday! I'll try to get pics up Sunday. It's fun, a great cruiser, although it looks like any future working on it will be farmed out to the mechanic. I can't even get to the fuel filter. Also, it hurts when those massive hoods fall on your head:

TIP: DON'T bump the prop when working underhood!

I've put fresh Mobil 1 and a new 180 degree thermostat, cleaned the MAF already, tomorrow it gets a transmission flush, new fuel filter, and MAYBE a coolant flush, but that one will probably wait. It runs a little hot(chronic C4 thing).

If it needs it it'll get new platinum plugs this week, but it runs great so if I pull a few and they are fine that'll wait a while.

I found it interesting it is running DEX-COOL.....

The LT1 "stripe" threw me at first, but it's tasteful and has grown on me.

C4 needs a HiCap all metal radiator and go back to the original thermostat. After that you should be fine and the system will operate in closed loop. Won't do that with the too cold thermo.

Sounds like a nice car, I guess that kinda kills the plans for the sleeper Camaro now.

Very cool man. I always preferred C4s over C5s and even C6s. If I don't pickup a GTO I may find me a nice 96' LT4. How does the convertible handle in comparison to the coupe? Is the top quiet when its up? The only thing I hate about Verts is when the top bubbles up when the top is up.

Can't wait to see pictures. Any mods in the works?

Well, I THOUGHT I had a cooling issue....the fans kicked on at 250~ and it cooled down QUICK. It normally runs a normal-for-C4 200 on cruising and 225 at stoplights. So that turned out to be normal! The fuel filter looked new and the lube that did the trans flush can imagine the only way to chage it is to lower the exhaust and crossmember, so I'm not too concerned with it. I just filled up with Shell V-power 91, put in a bottle of Hyper-lube MAX Octane booster, and 18oz of Lucas Fuel System cleaner(4-8 oz is supposed to be a normal treatment)

The only odd thing is it takes a little too long to start sometimes. Ooe guy thinks I should run a fuel system pressure test. Other than that she's a blast!

It handles very well. Not a solid as a coupe of course, but unless your wanting a track car this thing is still overkill for cruising or country roads

Just so no one worries:

the sleeper Camaro IS NOT DEAD. I've decided I want to plan out all the parts first and maybe even start buying them. I won't have the drivetrain for a while anyway, so I didn't see the point in rushing into finding the car. I'd just be hugely disappointed if I had the car half built and then ran into a project ender, or found out you just can't build a 3rd gen F-body into a full blown roadcourse car on a budget. I'm gonna research for a while see which of the planned mods yield what results. If they make the parts someone has bought them and tried them already! Also, I can't see myself sticking with a project that I don't have the money to continuously mod, thus the idea of getting most the parts first to keep me busy when I DO get the car!

The only thing I hate about Verts is when the top bubbles up when the top is up.

Tops only bubble up when they aren't sealed properly, bad weather stripping, bent frame, bad canvas, etc.

Ran a fuel pressure test, it's got the pressure so one tech at the Vette site is thinking injectors clogged or leaky...running a pretty good cleaning regimen right now that could do the trick. I am getting all the little things fixed tomorrow when my Eckler's order is due to arrive....can't wait!

I used 3M rubbing compound on the hood and deck to bring out the shine some. I only did it by hand(safer) but it did work. topped it off with NXT 2.0 wax(individuals who got it when first out are saying this new stuff looks to actually last 6 weeks or more this time) and tomorrow after I fix the little things it'll go for a wash and full wax. I've already got my mod list for the future made out!

I know I'll have some Zaino guys do some lobbying, I was all set to order until I found out it's starting to be condemned by paint and body guys as it's gaining popularity(spend some time on google for more)....now it been out a while, long term effect seems to be that the stuff seeps through to the metal, bonds, nearly ruins the car for future repaint(I guess also how long the repaint will last?). Makes for a forever shine, but if you need paint you could see serious problems(or labor bills). I wax every few months t most anyways, and NXT 2.0 isn't too far off in terms of initial shine, so I'm fine with it.

Nice car man!!! I've never been a huge Zaino fan, try some Klasse All In One, stuff works great and is easy to use. It is an acrylic sealant.

I guess I didn't think about the frame bending or possibly not sealed properly.

NXT 2.0 is awesome. Make sure to apply then let the wax sit for about 30 minutes before removing it. Meguiars wax produces best results when applied this way. You've gotta beautiful ride man, I'm pretty jealous. Only thing better would have been a 96' LT4 Vert.
