Abs Recall

I have looked at this recall. I have a 2000 GMC Sierra and when coming to a stop the ABS kicks on and it will not stop. Almost caused an accident.

I see there is a recall on this in the U.S. Does anyone know if this recall is good in Canada as well? I'm going to call the dealer as well to see if they will cover it.

Thanks.

I don't know why it wouldn't be valid in Canada, but my advise would be to pull the ABS fuse in the under-hood panel until you get it fixed.

yeah its a big safety issue... if they dont cover it... which they should... all it is ... is you clean the WSS(wheel speed sensors) on the front... its an easy fix, you gotta pull the brakes and rotor off... and such.... ive done a bunch at work lately.

I just talked to my dealer today. They said they did the recall at 126000km. I guess they just inspected it but it was ok at the time so the recall was done. Now that it is acting up they will not do anything about it because they did it already. Does that sound right? I now have 175000km on the truck.

mmm... i guess your best option is to take it in.. and have them run diagnostics on it... and they will prolly want to replace the wheel speed sensors. I wonder if they did the recall properly. They are supposed to remove the sensor, clean the end of it.. grease it.. then reinstall it.

Ya I'm not sure. I'm a mechanic as well so I think I will save my money and see if I can get the sensors out myself. Does the trigger wheel rust up on those causing the problem? Or just crap on the end of the sensor?

Did you ever get the ABS fixed? I'm in the same boat as you right now, I'm gonna stop by my local dealer and see if any recall work was done yet.

Turns out the recall work was never done. Dealer cleaned the VSS's (no problems now) and replaced the tailgate straps (no problems with the old ones but no need to turn down free stuff) and I was on my way.

I am having the same problem with my 05 silverado. At slow speeds the abs kicks in. I told the dealer about this and they said they cleaned the sensors. This was a week ago and the abs kicks on every time i am about to come to a stop. They said this is not a recall, and that they will clean the sensors for free since they messed up a big job that i was having done. ARE WE SAYING THIS IS A RECALL. If so i will call a different dealer.
